Building a UniVibe

Post by Berto »

After fooling around with Garageband, I have finally determined that I absolutely need a univibe pedal of some sort. I have been looking at the deja vibe and the new ehx good vibes. However, they aren't cheap, so I'm thinking I'll pull a Brian May. Will it be cheaper to build and how much of a pain will it be to put together? I built the tube amp I have now, but I wasn't soldering photocells and using pcb.

they must be pretty hardcore to build with the lamp/photocell setup. i'm quite a uni-vibe fan, recently i picked up the carl martin purple moon. it's pretty spot on the univibe sound and you can foot switch between two preset speeds. i picked one up new for about £99 over here in England.
the test of a good uni vibe is being able to cop those classic tones of glimour, hendrix and trower ;)

Cheapest possible is the Danelectro Chicken Salad, Pickle Vibe and Soul Vibe are not super expensive, a bit above 100$, but a lot more than the Danelectro.

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesn’t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts

I made vibe pedals based on the DIY Easy Vibe design using LED-LDR couplers. You could never convince me the lamps would be worth the pain.
