Jazzmaster or Jaguar..or none?

I was in my local music store playing for 3 hours Jags and Jazzmasters . I want to buy a VM SQ JM but IÂ´m kinda undecided because, now, at home again, I love my Jagmaster with p90 most..

I mean, Jags /JM are great looking guitars, I love the rythm circuit on both, but not the mini switches of the Jag..and the JM Pickups didnt sound SO great, much too harsh/ shrill. The Jaguar PU sounded somewhat better..
also IÂ´m unfamiliar with the 25,5 scale after years of playing Gibson scale/ Jagmaster..On my Jagmaster the neck is just better than the Fenders, I feel..

If you like what you already have don't bother replacing it.

If you're used to 24 3/4" scale, Jaguar will feel much more natural than a JM. It's not too difficult a process to replace the Jag's mini switches with a 3-way.

You can make one though.

Likewise, switching pickups in a JM is an easy (though fairly expensive) job.

But yeah, what're you looking for in a guitar? I mean why buy another if you're happy with the Jagmaster?

All personal preference, then, I suppose. I didn't realize the difference in fret spacing between 24" and 24.75", compared to 24.75" and 25.5", was so similar. For some reason I thought the spacing between 24.75" and 25.5" was greater than that of 24" / 24.75", but the difference is near identical. Even so...IMO going from a 24" scale to a 24 3/4" scale (or vice versa) isn't a huge stretch. From a 24 3/4" scale to a 25.5" scale, well, it is. I've spent a lot of time recently playing a Strat, and while I've adjusted now, after playing a Jaguar and SG as my main guitars for so long, I still notice the difference. I have small / average size hands, though.

yeah, replacing the switches with a toggle is an idea, like the Kurtz..
thats right, 24,75 is somewhat closer to 25,5..ist is mostly a feel thing..I felt my finger streching a bit more..the last time I had a Strat was Â´87 or so..

changing the jag PUs is another thing..they sounded better than the JM in my ears, of course in the JM you could replace the the Duncan designed , too..
I like the p90 tone, so maybe some quarterpounder or similar..

The Jagmaster is really nice, felt better than the Fender neck..well, you cant stop having GAS. Thats the only explanation I have ..

maybe I should give the Jag a chance..I really liked the feel, look and trem..

I initially liked both the Squier VM Jag and Jazz a lot... but kinda grew tired of them both. Not really sure why.

I did get all the shrillness out of my Jazz. Swapped the Duncan Designed for some vintage style pups and replaced the pots with 250k CTS. Big improvement IMO.

The vast choice with these two models now means there is something for almost anybody.

Gone are the days of just the MIJ models and do an TOM with JB Jr and gaffer tape over the switches.

Just try them all, or don't fix what isn't broke and stick with the Jagmaster.

Yeah, if you're used to Gibsons a Jaguar or Mustang definitely don't manifest themselves as a more normal feeling scale than a Strat or Tele do. They're short. It's not like everything gets scaled down.

I'm in the minority there, then. I can get used to just about anything, but the 24" scale is the most natural feeling for me of the three. It's short, yeah, but 24.75" is also short compared to 25.5"

I suppose it's just easier for me to get used to shorter scales than longer ones. Although, anything smaller than 24" is a bit TOO short IMO---don't think I would own a 22.5".

Defintitely a try before you buy kinda thing. Lately my jazzy and jag sit in the corner since I've been in favor of my silvertone and telecaster. Just less to fiddle with. Got tired of tinkering with all that shit when I have two guitars that are ready to play all the time.
