Jazz-Stang Build

Jazz-Stang Build
My buddy wants me to build him a guitar. He originally wanted a Jazzmaster but I showed him the jagstang 2.0 shape and he likes it but wants full scale. He also doesn't want the control plates, so it is more of a Jazz-Stang. He doesn't have a three single coil setup either. But he likes a simple setup. Meaning a three way for the neck and bridge and an on and off switch on the horn would be for the middle pickup. The mustang pickup covers look pretty cool. He wants the mint and white look. Still not certain on the tremolo. I really hope he goes through with this. I'd love to build it. Here's the first mockup I did.

Congratulations! Your Punkacc9 evolved into Awstin.
Yeah. Basically the pinup Jazzmaster but a little different. When my friend said strat like single coils I immediately thought of the pinup lol. Sorry it was just a picture in the first post. I couldn't format it on my phone. I had to edit the text in separately.

Well, my buddy is going through with it! This is now a build. Only one small update. Hardtail trem plate with tele neck pickup instead of a tremolo. Mock-up now has Jag horn instead of Jazz horn as well.
Here's the specs:
-Jazz-Stang Body (alder, mustang thickness, contours)
-25.5" scale Strat neck
-Mint green guard
-3 single coils with mustang pickups
-gotoh bridge
-hardtail trem plate with tele pickup
-toggle for bridge and neck
-on and off switch for middle pickup
-volume and tone with push pull in volume for tele pickup
-olympic white with matching headstock

Aesthetically I REALLY like this.
I like almost everything in the design, except the switching, but I would want something that allows the middle alone... and maybe phasing and/or series/parallel... but that goes against your buddy's desire for simplicity. I'd also prefer the trem, but the hardtail/pickup has some interesting possibilities.
In any case, if it turns out anything close to the mock up (why wouldn't it), it's sexy as hell.

Picked this neck up for $100. He isn't trying to be cheap but also not trying to break the bank. I know these necks are pretty good quality. I really dig that it has more of a natural vintage tint instead of the really yellowed tint squiers usually have.

Yeah. It's more about simplicity. He also wouldn't ever use the middle by itself. Could of went with a five way strat switch but they get annoying.Ankhanu wrote:Aesthetically I REALLY like this.

Cool build for sure. Reminds me of the Squier Scandal Jazzcaster (Stratomaster?)

^Ah, yes...the Mami Sasazaki sig model. Saw those ladies perform in London a few weeks back. She seems to prefer a heavily modded strat or a classic player JM these days from what I've heard. The Squier is cool though.
If I had the time and inclination, my take on this sort of build would be a Bilinda-stang sort of thing with a JM/Jag tailpiece and JM pickups/circuitry dropped into one of those '69 mustangs that has the extra arm/tummy contours. Best of both worlds if I could actually be arsed to do it.
