No, it's because it's a hollowbody with a wooden footy bridge and non-optimal pickup placement (at least if you want that Fender-style brightness). Note how Fender pickups generally never get closer to the neck than what lead guitarists would consider a "middle" position... and those Gibson "mudbuckers" aren't actually the problem themselves, it's the fact that they stuck them right up against the fingerboard on those EBs.dezb1 wrote:it has a rather nice thump to the sound - is this a feature of the shortscale?
I always liked my Jay Turser branded one (exact same bass) with flatwounds, both pickups engaged and the tone switch set to "solo". It gives a rolled-off tone sound, pretty old-school but the best kind of old-school.
