I use a Nano Small Clone for chorus. I've enjoyed other more 80's cold/sterile chorus effects a lot, but the watery warmth of the Clone is hard to beat.

yes, i've been eyeing the small clone for a while. the price is amazing, so how do its features stack up?

well you dont get much. You get the best chorus tone ever controlled by one knob which goes from booooooooong to bongbongbongbong. and a depth switch that does not do that much unless you wanna play come as you are only 8) . thats all. And it looks vintage, because they still make it in that giant packaging. :D

letting the "gear you hate" thread get back to its normally scheduled gripes.

the amp came in today! aside from being even lovelier in appearance than the stock images show, this is a quality amp. assembled in china under license by vox uk and styled to resemble a '60s television set, the fit and finish is top notch all the way. one of the concerns i had when ordering something like this that i had never actually physically touched was the handle type. the images made them appear a little flimsy, possibly uncomfortable. as i learned from pulling it out of the box by the very convenient side handles, the grips fit nicely and feel solidly attached. it's heavy (about 70lbs), but that's still lighter than the jvm head!

the tones were no surprise as these are the same internals as the model i have been playing for over a month at rehearsals. despite what one may think, the lack of a mid-range eq is not felt at all as it seems the ac30 is pretty much just voiced that way by default. the pair of 25w celestion greenbacks just add to the lushness in those mids as well. the amp takes pedals very well as each effect i applied jumped into the mix cleanly with no unexpected tonal shifts at all. i even briefly played with the built-in tremolo circuit, and i think that's one stomp box i will be able to forgo as this feature sounds exactly as i need it to. it's even foot-switchable.

which is my one complaint: no included footswitch! the ac30c2-tv retails for $1200, but they couldn't throw in a $40 (retail) part. are you fucking kidding me? oh well, i was planning on dropping twice that on a trem pedal, so the budget is not blown.

i only briefly played through the amp, so not much more detail than i've already provided. next up will be acquiring that footswitch and a chorus. then i'll see what else i need... prolly a bigger pedal board since, as you can see, space is starting to become a premium.

yeah, I know, I looked at that on Vox's website and they looked like they would break off, but they look sturdy in your pics.

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesnโ€™t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts

Looks great.

I was going to ask how it sounded with the back panel off, but the lack of a guard on the valves rather suggests that it really isn't intended to be used that way.

aw, damn! i should have played it with the back cover off! although, in the apartment, i didn't dare push the master volume past 1.5 anyway...

i went a little GAS happy last night and ordered:
  • a cover for the ac30
  • casters
  • ac30 foot switch
  • new, larger pedal train board
  • power supply w/ power cables & 6" patch cables w/ pancake-style connectors
  • 20' pedal python
  • Hotone Skyline Choir Analog Chorus Pedal

Isn't it a little redundant to have the Glove and the OCD on your board?

good question, haven't hooked up to an external cab, but from what i understand, the built-in speakers will go silent when those outputs are used... don't really plan to operate that way, tho.

the THRAWN pedal mike made me has this setup in one pedal. I think I asked for half king of tone OD and half saltbooster? I can't remember what's in it. all I know is it makes Excelsior sound amazing and the amp would suck now without it

I know my cougar1000 amp doesn't cut the top 12" when I plug the 12" cab under it. you get both at once with less harsh and more creme
