Musicmaster II Build
My friend really wanted my vintage parts mustang. He sold all his guitars and wanted a solid player to keep. So I sold it to him. That leaves me with a bit of cash. So the only responsible thing to do would be put it towards another guitar right? Well, this beauty popped up on ebay a while ago... It's a 74-76 era musicmaster 2 body. Single pickup route and the spray on the neck pocket tells you that date range. But man, that aged daphne blue is amazing. I didn't want another mustang and I really enjoy playing my swinger with just a neck pickup. I lock my mustang trems anyway so this seems like a good fit for me.
The neck is supposed to be a Music (space) master logo. But I think I am going to look for an older neck. I really want an A width like the mustang I sold. This is also supposed to have a plain white guard but I am leaning more towards the earlier white pearl. Maybe red tort. What do you guys think?

Awstin...did you get that body from a guy named Mike in upstate NY?
Pretty sure that was mine. Nice score.
Enjoy it. It came from Canada, and I believe it was her first trip back to America since she was made.

The guy I got it from had gutted it already. And he had it paired with a 65 slab Mustang neck(why I bought it).
Most likely it had mother of pearl originally.
At one point when I was much younger, I owned a 64 stock daphne MM, and it was an MOP guard.
I think that was the usual for them.
I traded the MM you now have with that fella in NY for a 66 mustang body in black refin...originally white. And a few other parts.
The mustang has tort guard on it, and it's purty perfect.
You can't go wrong with tort on just about any finish...well you can, but art is art...and no one is wrong:)
But I do believe that MOP was the choice at the factory back in the day...for daphnes and reds anyways.
Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving.

I know there's a lot of debate out there concerning 60's vs 70's Fenders, and weight amongst other things...I'm not really sure.
The routing for the Mustang trem would have lightened the load...and 60's MM's had duo sonic routing...Hard call.
But I would guess for the most part yes the 70's Fenders would be marginally heavier. I think they may have changed up the paint too...more layers...or maybe that was the clear coat over top.
The debate for me in keeping it or not, was finish vs age. I looooove daphne...and because of losing my old one years ago, I wanted to keep it.
In the end though, I wanted the body and neck to be closer in age. So that's why I traded it. I'm very happy for you...that someone here on the board got it. I'm excited to see how it all comes together.
She's a beauty-ful girl any way you slice it
