EQ pedal

Post by dezb1 »

Bought a boss eq pedal from a charity shop today for ร‚ยฃ15, all the changing pickups because they were too dark / too bright sounding I've done over the years could have been avoided if I'd bought one of these... And it does a great am radio type sound when you cut the high and low bandwidths.

Nice work. I don't always use my EQ pedal when jamming, but I'd never get rid of it. I also EQ the hell out of all my guitar recordings.

Never used an EQ pedal but funnily enough had been thinking of trying one out. Where are you putting it in your chain?

I have no idea where common wisdom says it 'should' go but my chain now goes thusly:

Chorus - Overdrive - Distortion - Flanger - Eq - Delay - Reverb -

My thinking was I wanted to Eq the tone but not the space created by the delay / reverb.

i put my EQ before dirt, with the right setting you can get some gnarly fuzz tones out of even basic dirt pedals. i got something very close to some kevin shields tones with the danelectro cool cat fuzz v2

I guess if you're trying to make the guitar itself sound as if it's something brighter, it'd go first, and the subsequent pedals would react accordingly.

Sitting at work just now, thinking of things I'd rather be doing. If you put the EQ in the fx loop of your amp would it just act like a really accurate amp EQ section rather than a guitar effect or would this make no real difference?

The former, would make a massive difference to overall sound, like you say, a super tweakable amp EQ section. Just set the amp's own EQ to be neutral to get the most out of it.

Mine kept lowering the volume at times. Just sprayed cleaner in the faders, I'll see how it holds up, but it seems to be holding up. It was doing weird volume drops in bypass too before, so I'm not sure that did the trick.

When you press the accelerator past halfway it doesnโ€™t actually go any faster, but the engine noise distorts

That sounds like something else entirely, maybe you have a bad cord or connection.

Nah, it's definitely the eq pedal, I just put it on my board recently.

you should be able to pick up a fish 'n chips eq on the used market for dirt cheap, and they work pretty damn good.

Unless it's true bypass, it could be anything within the pedal at all, as the signal will still be flowing through some of the pedals guts. Maybe start by spraying some cleaning in the inputs and outputs?

Buy another EQ to use as a volumes boost to account for the volume drop.

Yeah, but they are pretty random. I suppose if I knew Arduino I could program the second one to correspond to the first. But a compressor could also help, except it might not compress enough, in which case I could add several compressors.

I'm kind of curious about those Artec parametric eqs.
