Antigua Baritone Jazzmaster

Post by mezzio13 »

Been away from my PC for a few days, so I'm tardy to the party on this one. Excellent Christmas gift from the family.

I'm really impressed with build quality. No buzzes, no sharp frets, tight neck pocket. In all seriousness, it's comparable, if not better than my Am Del strat. Weird. Tuning is stable, action is reasonably low (all things considered). The pups are Duncan Design, they're not quite as hot as the Quarter Pounders that Fran had on his Jazzy years ago, but still beefy enough. The range of sounds on this is from spaghetti western to Boris. I've really been able to dial in some really great stuff. Plus ANTUGUA!!!!

My thoughts exactly, despite being a wonky in-between model with that funky reverb handle output jack it's a perfect fit and must be a thrill to play :)

Nice score.
That picture raises questions though. Is that a gremlin on top of the tree and who's doing the water-skiing?

Most excellent.
I've been pretty curious about these since they were announced. The 30" scale is appealing (I play a VI tuned to baritone, so the same scale/tension as these), and I'd love to hear how one sounds with heavier strings and tuned E-e like a VI... Jazzmaster pickups and 30" scale bass has been a combo I've been wanting to test.

lol, first thing I thought

As both an antigua and Bass VI enthusiast I always liked these. If I actually went that route I'm sure now I'd just get the VM VI, but these are pretty sweet IMO.

Mine is a little more green than that one, which is better in my book. I'll have to side by side w/ my Antigua Tele. I might try my hand at a demo, although I am inexperienced with such things.

Still haven't made that video, but...

So last night was the first time I got to stretch out my baritone Jazzmaster. The added string length and the heavier strings just add so much. They vibrate and resonate right through you. Also, with the strings being 12-60s, I can just pound on them with not as much breaking, and man can you push down on a palm mute. The wimpy stock Duncan Design pups were breaking up like they were EMG 81's (with admittedly less volume).

I should have started playing these things in like 1984.....

Holy crap....

I posted the same of Facebook and Rob called me a puss for only playing 12's, but he only plays the top 3 strings anyway. ;)
