I have a couple vintage guitars left that I haven't sold, but I tend to baby them because they are valuable and old. I like modern stuff too, but sometimes they are so clean they don't feel like they have character. I also recently traded away my last Jazzmaster. Once it was gone I realized I really miss the white one I used to have. I have seen and read good stuff about MJT so I thought I would give them a try. That way I would have a new guitar with some of the character of an old guitar. Thinking ash body with a heavy reliced white blonde finish. I have white witch hats already and a mastery and unbranded tremolo. Only things I would need are electronics and pickguard. Here is the idea.
So vinigar wasn't working. Not denting the chrome so I went for muriatic acid. Fume method wasn't doing anything so I put the stuff in it and kept an eye on it. Seemed to do the trick. I am letting the rinsed stuff set until tomorrow.
Once the coffee stain was dry, I could do phase two with wood stain. I use dark walnut because I wanted them to look grimey like the tremolo. I am pretty happy with how they turned out.
Here is a pic with the tone knob with added stain and volume without.
Pickguard and pickup covers arrive today. SUPER excited to age those. I gave the no brand tremolo another bath in muriatic acid. I am not sure what that metal is, but it was IN the acid for a little over an hour and I see no visible reaction. I have it rinsed and sitting in the garage. Super strange. LOL
Got the pickguard and covers pretty much done. I lightly sanded the guard and covers to knock the shine off. I used more coarse grit on corners and edges and a couple places. The covers were already yellowed, so I just rubbed dark walnut stain on them to get the cracks dirty looking. I tried coffee on the guard but the Allparts one didn't react to the coffee at all. I used stain on it as well. I am pretty happy with them overall. I did learn some stuff, but it was fun.
Thanks to a trade, I have some sweet pickup wizard pickups coming for this. Super excited. Only need to get lower control pots and a jack. All the rest I have or MJT is working on.
