MIM Fender Telecaster Deluxe

Post by HNB »

Picked up one of these off eBay. It is pretty cool :D The bridge is spaced better and the strings go over the pickup poles better than my Squier. I like them both. Not sure what the stock pots are in this one, but it sounds less muddy than the Squier did stock. The details are closer to the original than the Squier, but they are both very nice guitars.

Really wanted to compare the MIM to Squire to see how they stack up. Neither were super expensive, so I took a bite. Both of them together were almost $200 less than one Japanese Fender.

Looks great.

When not all 1970s MUSTACHED with jumpsuits and feathered hairand overdone, walnut finish guitars in general with black trim have the potential to look quite nice.

Just brown stain. :) I think these came in black, burst, and brown.

I am getting a different guard made for it, so it gave me a chance to check out the guts. Funny enough, the Squire is shielded better. The MIM has no shielding paint in it. It does have nicer pots and a nicer toggle, but even the pickguard has less shielding than the Squire.

Sicne you're going through the different versions, did they ever do a US re-issue of this guitar? I seem to remember one but I can't find it.

I don't think so. I know there was a Japanese version, but I think the only US ones were the originals?

Agree, there is no need in shielding

I think there was an American made version for the Japanese market. I got to go through my photos.

SneakyT got my guard sent to me. I am just waiting on the 1meg pots. I figured I could do sort of a mock up. It still has the protective film on it, but looks great!

Finally got it back together. I put some aluminum shielding on the pickguard.

After that I just replaced one pot at a time matching wires until I got this.
