when i was in college going to U.Dayton, i would drive to shows in Cincinnatti, Columbus, Cleveland, Akron every weekend. i would see some bands 3 nights in a row some times.

mikes is 4 or 5 stories tall. STUFFED with shit. its worth the drive

Musicmasters seem sick but I don't really want a single pup guitar. I like the versatility with the pickup options in the stangs

I go to Columbus every so often for shows but mostly stay around the cleveland area. I graduated from UA. Never been to Cinci besides driving through it.

I think overall since I have learned mostly playing my Fender Super-Sonic (Which I have heard has a fatter neck than the Squier) I can get down with a '65 RI. I don't think the neck will be as fat as my super-sonic which will make it much better. I have managed to get clean sounding barres with my super-sonic so I don't think a '65 will be an issue. Damn I love short scale guitars!!!!! Now I am interested in a jag-stang too. I will make my decision eventually if I see a good looking guitar come up on Reverb of these varieties.

I have seen many listings for the 65 and jag-stang on reverb, ebay, etc. and they vary quite a lot.

What would some of you recommend paying for either of these guitars (in good condition besides minor nicks/dings)?

after owning mine for 10 years stock i decided to fart around with it back around 2005. i took the humbucker completely out, replaced the neck pickup with a Seymour Duncan SJAG-1 jaguar pickup and its perfect. I have kept it the same for the last 11 years.

This has more to do with the fact that the plonkers used Mustang parts and the JS has 250k pots stock. That's why the neck pickup (a '57/'62 CIJ Strat unit) sounds so vintage Stratty and the bucker sounds muffly and shit. With 500k pots it's fine, though the neck pickup is a bit less lush.

Looking at some listings on ebay and what do you guys think I should pay for a blue jagstang with 1 or 2 minor dings with a return policy? There are several listings between 800-950.

Expensive. I got my Jag-Stang in MINT condition from a store in a foreign country where Squier gear starts at $500 US.

You can do better than that if you're patient.

I like my Jag-Stang, but my daily driver is my CIJ Vista Jagmaster. The necks are slightly different but both rad.

did this thing ever come out in any other color other than mud ?

i liked the neck on them....if my jagstang had 10 coats of clear poly on it then these things had 15 coats. holy shit

About the wood, sound is the same but the basswood is way more dentable. I never gave that much thought until my kid came around and found every way possible to accidentally knock chairs, lightsabers, balls, etc into them. Also I don't think the 65 reassure is alder, I believe it is poplar.

I'm of a similar mindset to Robroe though. I've owned enough guitars to not really care what the wood is. Most of the times our ears can't tell the difference. I'm a member on the Strat Talk forums too, and the amount of people who ask questions about body wood, fingerboard wood, what kind of maple for the neck etc is just madness. I'm not saying these things don't make a difference, but by the time they've gone through your pedals and amp, and been absorbed by the room of people you're playing to, does it really make all that much difference? I think not. We tend to get hung up on things, especially if you're a bit of a gear nerd, like I am. Don't get me started on this Nitro vs Poly nonsense either.
