Ash Jag-Stang

I am picking this project back up. The cedar body didn't work out. It was a little too delicate so I got a ash body instead. I know my walnut/maple Jag-Stang is my number 1, but I want to finish this one as a backup since I had it on the back burner from before the Duality Jag-Stang was done. Here is what I have so far.

First I had to get the pocket widened a little bit to fit the stock Fender Japanese Jag-Stang neck. Once I got the neck mounted, I put the pear pickguard I ordered with humbucker size single coil pickups on it. (I really like these old fake humbuckers. Have the inside is empty space. Just looks like a humbucker.)

Since I wanted a hardtail bridge, I was drawing out the center line (luckily it is a two piece body with a centerline) and adding some perpendicular lines to help me line up the bridge.

I marked the bridge holes and mounted the bridge to the body so I could drill the six holes for the strings.

I only drilled the high e and low e holes through the body. Then I mounted the bridge on the back of the guitar to drill the other four holes through to the front to get them straight. Drilling the ferrules didn't go perfect. It was hard to center the large bit over the string holes, but I think it turned out pretty ok for my first time. They work work fine and some of the vintage telecasters have wonky ferrules also. LOL

I rubbed some black grain filler on the body. I will lightly sand it tomorrow when it is more dry.

Once it is sanded smooth again, I am going to add some oak stain to it. Should look pretty cool, but I will have to wait and see.

Good staining times today. Nice golden color.

Contrasts my walnut stained stuff well. The black grain filler worked well.

looks good..I did stain an ash body and it was a pain in the Ash.
IÂ´d just clear coat it with acrylic spray laquer, this dries much quicker, otherwise the wood will raise up for sure..
will give it a nice color depth..

Tung oil progress. Looking ok. I would like it a little more glossy. Hopefully after some more coats.

I also got my control plate, so I drilled a hole between the pot holes for a three way switch. (Since I am not using slider switches.) OH and if you didn't know, you can get full size CTS pots now that are metric sized so you don't have to enlarge the holes.

Strings are on. My biggest worries are a-ok. Since I haven't ever drilled a bridge or any of that, I was worried about my neck and strings aligning and the bridge intonating correctly. I put the strings on and it all went just fine. Very excited that it turned out ok.

The black grain filler worked great on there, especially after you got the extra coats of oil on it. The pearl guards always look best on plain bodies. Great jerb.
