NAMM 2017: Year of the Head?

Hotone and others did it on the cheap module-mini-heads, now VOX has jumped in with tubey-flavored front end head + 50W Class D oomph, weighing in at a meager 1.1lbs. So far looking kinda pricey and each one is amp voicing-specific (AC30/TEH ROCKZ/KLEEN), but they do seem to sound decent. Now available at Chapperland-upon-Guildford, Surrey.

Dang, another small affordable Vox-flavoured thing.

Kinda annoying they've split it to THREE(!) different versions; I can't believe there's an insane amount of difference between the Clean and AC30 versions.

YT comments suggest they're going for Â£200 online somewhere (no link given), which isn't too bad I guess. Will be interesting to try one next to a AC15 or something.

Maybe it was the way not to say Deluxe Reverb, I mean the Clean model. Looks tempting, though it is better to wait till people start buying them and check their feedback

im not paying 300 fucking dollars for this fucking thing when you can get this for 50 dollars cheaper.

is there anything out there for 100 bucks that you can plug into a 12" cab thats really fucking loud yet?

cuz i got a cab that just sitting in the basement for 10 years doing jack squat

They already do one thing (hence the 3 different models), and removing part of 2/3 of a circuit doesn't remove 2/3 of the price, ding-dong.

is that about equal to a 50 watt solid state amp with no speaker that costs the same? and doesn't make any noise ?

My 500w PA system is pretty loud and was very cheap too; does that make it better than your amp?

The Voxes are Â£200 not-even-out-yet brand new, I'm sure used prices will get to the Â£125-Â£150 mark after a year.

Vox has a Class D power-amp so is probably pretty loud, compared to the 50w solidstate amps we dimed as kids. Plus a headphone/recording output, tone controls, switchable impedance and is a super lightweight head.

It's a totally different thing, so comparing it to that one amp you have is seems pretty redundant.

The AC sounds nice. A bit sceptical of their marketing though. Wonder how much better and tube-like this would this be compared to a Â£30 Sansamp clone and power amp, which does all shades of voxy gain and has a bonkers eq stack, and sits on a pedal board.

I can't say I'm too excited about someone doing a digital modelling Class D handbag head myself.

Here's an option:
STA50-BT class D 50W RMS per channel into 4 ohms - Â£87.50 - includes bluetooth, SD card, USB, remote control.

Stick a preamp pedal on the front.
