Opinion thread: Favourite SG style guitar

Hi,

We've noticed there's a few pictures in this thread that aren't SGs. To help us keep Shortscale tidy, we'd really appreciate it if you could delete them or replace them with SG pictures so we don't have to move them into their own thread, or rename this one.

89 bucks for the guitar. 40 dollars for the custom pickguard. hahahahahhahah

loved her, pretty sure my buddy matt still owns her. sold it for 100

Funny you should ask, I saw two Les pauls at a decent price and tried them out to see which one would be better. The first one was a faded brown Les Paul, I really liked the color. Nice sound and everything seemed good. Then I took the other which is the one I own now and played around with it. Both sounded excellent and felt and played really well. I sat playing them back and forth for a while, eventually, the guy that was helping me was like well when you're ready just come find me.
I stopped and looked up reviews. Didn't help much. The faded was slightly cheaper so I was swaying toward its initially. But figured id play them one more time to make sure. This time I noticed the neck for the faded felt greasy, since I was getting sweaty (I sweat very easily lol). Felt the honey burst neck, smooth and silky even with my sweaty greasy hands. That helped me decide.

The neck is actually one of the best things I love about the guitar, the fretboard, and the bottom, slide so nice and smoothly. The best neck on a guitar I've owned hands down. None of the guitars I've had felt like this. Also, the humbuckers on the honey burst sounded much fuller compared to the other one. A Very slight difference but I could hear the honey had a more of punch and didn't fade as quickly. And its light as a feather, like 5 pounds. I'm in love with.

Just got my Vox AC15C1 today, so tonight the honey and vox are gonna make sweet love.

FUUUCK this is exactly what I want to do if I get an epi SG or something of the likes. Those old melody maker SGs look fucking cool.

I saw one of those Dearmonds in Cash Converters a few years ago, I'm still kicking myself for not buying it.

My first guitar was a DeArmond M-65. I got an M-65c (the super-deluxe cheap guitar) off shad. I have a soft spot for them.

What's the history behind Guild, Dearmond and Squier? I know that Squier bought Guild sometime in the past, but what was about Dearmond making Guild models?
Guilds are interesting guitars, I remember when I saw Brendan Benson from Raconteurs in some magazine I couldn't decipher a "Gibson" he was playing

ive played a DBL one in a shop. the strings were up SO FUCKIN FAR. not only on the fretboard, but off the body of the guitar because its so skinny. i got my pick jammed on it like 0129832098 fuckin times. they look great but play like balls deep in 40 year old Trish Stratus

Strings are high on them not because of the body thickness. Those Kalamazoo's have wraparound stop tail style bridges which sit high and their neck pockets aren't routed at angle to compensate the height of the bridge. They just made a shallow neck pocket to make the neck sit at the same height as the bridge, because of that strings are far way from the body. It gives them oddball Rickenbacker feel. The height of the strings over the fretboard might be screwed because of the poorly cut nut or the fact that the bridge posts are all the way in the body but bridge is still too high for a good string action.

The main problem with these guitars in my opinion though is that their bodies are made of MDF. Considering that bodies are thin you can easily break them at the neck pocket area. Or if you try hard you can break them across the body
