Buying an amp from Amazon

Post by mkt3000 »

I have a ton of Amazon credit, plus some extra cash after selling some gear - and they have a Marshall DSL15C for pretty cheap used because:

"Large cosmetic imperfection(s) on top, front or sides of item."

Any idea what that would mean? Would that mean like ripped tolex or grill cloth? Or something more substantial, like damage to the wood?

Seller is Amazon - I called and they just repeated the description from the website.

But... free shipping, it'll be here this week, and 30 days to return it.

Fuckit. I'll buy it.

For sure, sounds like you're covered.

Makes me weary of buying something fragile like a tube amp from someone who can literally tell you nothing about it, other than its existence in their stock..

But yeah, 30 day refund etc. Check you dont have to pay return shipping though.

Amazon's been good about returns.

If it arrives here, and it's just been "reliced", it can stay. If it's got actual damage, then it goes back.

Total paid after Amazon credit and some gift cards was $272. For a tube Marshall, which according to some videos I've watched has a pretty fucking decent clean.

Yeah man, I've had a DSL50 for years and it's got a GREAT cleans/crunch, I'm sure this won't be much different.

Always found the actual drive 'Ultra' channels on these fizzy as hell, I think they really shine when they've VERY LOUD and I've always used the DSL50 with pedal dirt.

Well, fiancée reminded me of last time I bought something with damage on amazon. Namely a microwave that zapped me and cut me.

I canceled the order, and since I'm still looking for a cheapish tube amp to beat up at home, ordered a used, like new, Fender Bassbreaker 007 from GC.

Yeah, I saw that one after you cancelled it, $300ish plus tax....considering they mentioned corner damage it really sounds like it was dropped.

Anyway, you can find them used at GC for $400 plus shipping and are probably in better shape. Hope the Bassbreaker works out, never messed around with those too much.

My thought exactly. After fiancée put the fear of god in me, the cancelation was easy. When the damaged microwave arrived previously, the metal housing was bent and it shocked me after I plugged it in... then when I pack it up to return it, i sliced my finger open on an edge of the bent metal. Needless to say, I was pissed that I had to return it and amazon wouldn't just accept photos of me tossing it in the trash. All I need with the Marshall is that a piece of glass from a broken tube slices my finger open to get a screaming match between me and amazon going.

I found it interesting after listening to some demoes. British-ish dirt, and American cleans, with fairly simple controls.

Also least with the Bassbreaker, I'll only be out shipping if I decide to return it to GC locally - and I if I opt for store credit, I might be able to haggle that amount onto the store credit amount (if i get something on the spot)
