Oh yeah, it's because I've got an expensive vacation coming soon. But damn, this is tempting me.

You should because it's an SG and SG's are awesome - the only reason you shouldn't is if you already have an awesome SG.

I'm calling now to try and snag a natural one - already applied and got approved for their card, so it'd be like $23/month

I had a Xaviere SG copy many years ago, but never a real SG. I think the only Gibson I've ever owned was my old GK55

When I started playing the guitar when I was 16 the two guitars I really wanted were a Tele and an SG then my head got turned by many other guitars until I finally bought a decent Tele for my 30th and SG for my 40th birthdays and realised the 16 year old me was right.

A note of caution (and a terrible benecol stereotype here): what Gibson themselves the fucking fools are describing as mini-humbuckers appear to me to be Firebird pickups (no adjustable polepieces, entirely different construction internally). The Firebird reissue pickups are overwound to fuck - you nay find you need to replace them.

All that said: I love SGs; enjoy x

Seeing as Gibson (or contractors there of) invented the pickups - I'd say that this settles the argument once and for all that firebird pickups are indeed mini humbuckers...

Didn't Epiphone invent the Mini Hums, and Gibson acquired the technology when they bought Epiphone?

Those were New York pickups that PAF minibuckers looked a bit like. NY pickups were low resistance singles

So, since I bought it after all, here is a minor update.

When I bought it, the natural was already not showing on the website, and it was replaced by the Cherry. I called and asked - and they found two (maybe GC inventory? They are the same company after all), and said it wasn't a problem. They'd sell me the natural - however, since there were only two left, there was a chance that I wouldn't get one if their inventory didn't match (ie, if they oversold by selling the same inventory through multiple outlets GC/MF/Music123/WW&BW + their respective ebay stores). Then I'd get a refund.

This happened to me once many years ago, when I bought one of the Squier Telecasters with a Jazzy neck pickup.

Anyway, long story short.... I got the tracking number today! It's mine!!
