That is an incredibly annoying colour combo.

He'll quite possibly get it. Prices for them are nuts:

I sell quite a lot on eBay and have to do price research for some of the items. Ebay is 90% overpriced stuff that gets relisted ad nauseum and 10% items that are priced to sell/on auction.

Every time I’m tempted by a custom shop I remember it has that corny winga-dinga car show logo on the back of the headstock and neck plate and lose interest. Very nice though

To be honest I've become partial to the more modest Road Worn '70s Telecaster Deluxes.
I can't snag one second hand so far, they keep going for so close to the price new that I'm fairly aghast anyone is paying that
Maybe the places advertising them new don't really have them?
I'm pretty set now on getting a guitar with Wide Range pickups so I can put the silly new CuNiFe ones in.

There is a chance the places don’t have them, worth just phoning though surely?

Still at the stage of trying not to buy this guitar new
I know you all think I’m an idiot for my various puritanical/virtuous/40s media dad stances but we are where we are

Aren't the road worn ones been replaced by the vintera ones like the strat I just pre-ordered?

cool, i hadn't looked at the tele ones, just the strats. I know a lot of them have been limited release and covid has hit supply chains which has meant a slow supply. There is also talk that fener are limiting the stock as well to try and not have it take away from people who might buy a custom shop relic guitar.
also what are the new CuNiFe wide range pickups you are talking about?

Oooh
Not cheap or my first choice of colour but I reckon flip the scratch plate to black and you’re in business
