New Strat Build (NOW WITH PICS)
So, some may remember the thread about me having a tele built out of wood from my Grandpa's barn after he passed. Turns out there was enough wood left for a 2nd one. SO. had another friend build me a strat.
Specs.
Cherry (chambered) body and neck
Cocobolo fretboard
Anodized gold pickguard
gold hardware (including frets)
cream covers/knobs
Lace Gold pickups.
roughly a 62 neck profile.
This pick is the 1st real mock up since it was back from finishing.

Gold itself is very soft for sure. These are not gold. Its a Copper alloy so they are gold color through and through (not plated) and is supposed to be somewhere between nickel/silver frets and stainless steel in hardness.robroe wrote:The frets are super interesting!
Real gold is super soft and will wear down quickly and any other way you get them that color seems like it would scratch off to the under material from string wear.
How's it work?

I did not think there was enough wood for a guitar and we had to be a little creative in placement. This piece shown had a decent end crack and then 2 knots (1 pretty mangled). When we split the wood and played around with it we were able to keep the split and 1 knot out of the guitar and 1 knot is actually under the pickguard (but you can see the cool grain surrounding it above the pickguard
I think it will end up being a cool project.

Well, as nice as this one looks I'll still probably take that cover off. Of course I was basically raised in a barn.plopswagon wrote:As opposed to the raisedinabarncaster, that’s a Strat that had the rear tremolo covered removed and never replaced.mickie08 wrote:That it is....Mike wrote:The BarnCaster!
