Trying Squier Paranormal Guitars
I have a nice set of Offset guitars (JM, Jaguar, Mustang, Bronco) but I have been wanting to try some of the new Squier Offerings in the Paranormal Series.
Not long ago, I tried the Seafoam Green Metallic Toronado. The guitar played decent though the pickups were not that great and would definitely need to be upgraded.
Yesterday, I tried a Squier Cyclone in White/Red pickguard.
Like the Tornado, it played decent though could due with some new .11 strings. I am not sure if I like 24.75" scale Fender/Squier guitars even though I love 25.5' and 24" scale models. The pickups were okay but it would be super satisfying to drop 3 Jaguar pickups into the guitar. The pickup switching impressed me on the Cyclone. I love the low profile Jaguar switches. I don't own a Strat and all my guitars are 2 pickups configurations. I really loved the middle pickup by itself, neck + Bridge, and some of the sounds were fun. It didn't blow me away but the pickup combinations make me wonder if a proper setup and some new pickups could make a really cool option.
I used to own a Black Squier Super-sonic and forgot why I sold it. I grabbed one of the new ones and immediately remembered why I sold the other one. The body is just not comfortable for me as is the neck. I hate it because I love how these guitars look.
I love that Squier keeps making these guitars, I just haven't found one that really got me excited enough to pull the trigger on one. I tried a used Squier CV Mustang that played fantastic that I liked better than two LPB Vintera Mustangs. (Both tremolos on those Vintera Mustangs were setup completely not setup properly)
I did spot a used Fender Toronado with the racing stripes I didn't have time to check it out.

Re: Trying Squier Paranormal Guitars
so it was my favorite one of the group. it got played wayyyyyyyyyy more than all the others, sounds better, has the most functional tones. cleans up, dirties up. it does it all.
.....until I hit the 6 month mark and mid winter all the fucking frets started poking out the sides of the god damn fretboard. then I got that CME purple jag and played the shit out of that for a while.
of the last 5 guitars Ive bought 4 were squiers and the last guitar is a gretsch.
the gretsch feels like a fender, shaped like a gibson, the build quality is better than any squier or mexican fender. Id put it up in the MIJ fender realm.
the P90 in it sounds almost exactly like the cabronita but louder.
for 249 used this guitar is the best value guitar on the market period.
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Grets ... KhEALw_wcB
I got the blue one obviously but the brown one.....fuck it may be the first brown guitar I ever own
im so happy with this thing, and ive owned like 40 guitars now ? i don't even know how many. if i was a kid and this was my first guitar i would never put the fucking thing down.

Andertons offerings today...
So $249 -> £299.
Of course, Bax do it for £281 but they don't have any.

Re: Trying Squier Paranormal Guitars
I just played that exact Gretsch when I was playing the Paranormal guitars.
Both pickups were really good. I think parring a P90 and a humbucker together is brilliant. I had yet to find a humbucker I like and that bridge humbucker was awesome. The sound was very clear and direct.
For the price, its an amazing guitar and some really great colors too. I will probably grab one of these at some point. There are so many great guitars in the $300-$500 range now.

Re: Trying Squier Paranormal Guitars
To be a proper Gretsch it needs at least 3 more switches and 4 more pots.
Re: Trying Squier Paranormal Guitars
nope still got them.
I'm at a point in my life where I don't think I will sell anything ever again.
the last one i sold was my 65RI to fund a plane ticket to LA for a shortscale maet up with these assholes.
wish i had my guitar back.

Speaking about sharp fret ends, that's another reason I don't like maple fretboards as it's basically close to impossible to level the sharp fret ends without damaging the lacquer. Neck wood however properly it was dried will continue shrinking with the time, with the changes in humidity and temperature and sharp fret ends will appear
