Any verdicts on the squire sonic mustangs?
Anyone played or owned one? They look quite tempting at £149, not fussed on a trem as I never use it anyway.
I known hurb has been modding his HH squire mustang to great effect, are these SS ones similar build quality etc?
Doubt I’ll be able to find a Japanese Dakota red for cheaps, so this might scratch the itch for a mustang again.

don't know much about them or why they're not just calling them duo sonic since they ditch the mustang bridge and switching. they look cool enough, though.

Re: Any verdicts on the squire sonic mustangs?
Same reason Ford is calling their newest SUV Mustang.
Re: Any verdicts on the squire sonic mustangs?
I'm not buying any more of this shit until they throw that mustang bridge on the ground and use the toronado one
Re: Any verdicts on the squire sonic mustangs?
I put a toronado bridge on a bullet mustang. The string through sounded great.
Smells like Rock n' Roll
Re: Any verdicts on the squire sonic mustangs?
I've done two of them now. One I built for Al and one I kept for myself
Re: Any verdicts on the squire sonic mustangs?
My nephew bought a Sonic Mustang and he said he loves it. I'll check it out next time I visit. I think he's wanting to put a different bridge on his.
We may try a toronado bridge if he's up for it.

Has Sonic Mustang got the same specs as the Bullet one? I mean the same 35mm body and the same neck.

its the same exact fucking thing.

I think the body is slab like 65/66 'stangs, without those things cut on the back and for the forearm like on strats (which the Bullet Mustangs have).

Re: Any verdicts on the squire sonic mustangs?
I played one today. The single coil pickups were ok, better than on the CV Mustang which I own, but not stellar. Only played it clean because I was trying out a pedal.
The neck wasn't too great. Some string buzz, and I disliked the lack of finish on the neck (I know it's supposed to have some super-thin oil layer or something on it). I think I disliked the lack of finish on the fretboard more, considering it had a maple fretboard. The one I played was sunburst, looked ok, but it inspires me less than sunburst on a strat. (I kind of like sunburst on strats)
I liked the Bullet Mustang I played several years ago a lot more.
Wouldn't say it's a bad guitar for the price, could be very good if you do some work on it I suppose.

Re: Any verdicts on the squire sonic mustangs?
I caved and just snagged a yellow one from Guitar Center for $160
Plan to use it as a learning project, finishing the neck properly and routing it for Mustang switches (hopefully it’s thick enough?) and a Toronado bridge
I’ve been wanting a cheap stang to put the old prison stang cool rails in. Hoping to get it looking something like this refin’d 75
I don't think it'll be worthy of it's own thread until I'm done with it so I'll report back here when it arrives in a week.

This was waiting for me after work, 4 days late with a big hole in the box. It’s nice tho and didn’t have any issues. Initial impressions are great! Neck feels nice, smooth skunk stripe, pale olive ass laurel fretboard. Comfortable profile with satin finish. No sharp fret edges. Paint is smooth, there’s some weirdness in the cavity but you can’t see that anyway.
Tuners seem fine, bridge seems fine, if not maybe a little buzzy on the G. Both will probably go for aesthetic reasons but they’re perfectly functional.
The pearl pickguard I bought is] a hair too long in the bridge and control plate areas, it was a cheapy so I may try to reshape it. The plain 3 ply white guard from prison stang actually fits it better, but that has some badly routed out pickup holes.
Wish they offered this color on the bullet without the black stripe, since I do miss the contour a little, but the slab is more appropriate for a Duo Sonic. It’s also only 6 1/2lbs so a win there!
Quick mock-up after some lemon oil: As I got it:

God damn, I actually love the black-on-yellow colour scheme. This is my first time seeing it!
If they made a shortscale bass in this scheme (Mustang, Bronco, whatever, I'm not fussy) then I'm afraid I would immediately be £200 poorer.
