I suppose there are a few shortscalers familiar with the Old Friends dogs home where they take hideous, stinky old dogs, give them a makeover and find new homes for them. I've realised this is my aesthetic for guitar collecting: not the pristine time capsules, but guitars who've lived so hard they are glad to retire and be cared for.
Thus it was when I was using Zenmarket for a purchase from Japan. I decided to browse their links to Yahoo auctions and saw a 90s MIJ Mustang, not normally the kind of thing I go crazy for, but somehow its terrible condition spoke to me. It was a fair bit cheaper than they go for these days (2010s pricing) so I'm happy to welcome it to rehab. Now I have to wait (and make sure my hep B vaccinations are up to date).
Action is looking a tad high, so fingers crossed I'm not dealing with a broken truss rod.

i'm pretty onboard with the legitimately relic'd guitars myself now that i've had the bronco for a minute. as long as the thing is functional and just needs superficial (or even light wiring) fixes, why spend another 30% or more to get something that just sat in a closet for decades? i'd rather have something with stories to tell.
I bought a “highly experienced” Tele a couple of years ago (was Sonic Blue, now Marlboro Gold) and that set me in the path of righteousness. Maybe this one will be a disaster tho.

Well, I got kind of reamed on the shipping (their promo applied to every service except UPS which was the only one which would take the larger box of this and a couple other things), but I'm hoping this is now a week or two away ...
I once ordered a guitar pickup from Japan, it seemed to have travelled around the world twice before it appeared here. It took months iirc, though I much further from Japan.
No, it was a fret crowning file back when you could buy it either on Stewmac(expensive shit) or in Japan. The pickup I ordered travelled for months and ended up returning back to Japan(the seller sent me an email).
Well it turns out the photos were a little harsh. But it sure is yellowed!
Rather unique bridge setup ...
But I plugged it in, tried it out, it all works ...
