Always on pedals, a popular option?

Proper love my MG10, stupidly good for such a cheap basic amp.

More and more lately, I've been coming the conclusion that the best I sound is when I have two minutes to quickly set up whatever really shitty 5w amp I can put my hand on, work out which of the school guitars are least broken and most hold tune, and find a cable that only crackles instead of cutting out completely, then shred it up for 30 seconds before pupils get in for a guitar lesson.

I’ve usually got to contend with 3 year old that constantly switches channels on the amp, turns it off and on repeatedly, messes with any pedal settings or machine heads. He’s managed to lose my good trigger capo and my decent clip on tuner too i did restring my strat but now enjoying the greasy tones provided by his cheese puff covers fingers

The digitech seems to be a bit of a sleeper pedal, never tried one but used to have a blues driver which was nice but I used to get annoyed with its splatty decay. Might have to keep a lookout for one.

It's not for everyone, but honestly, the 2-band EQ is a game changer, so you can get a super middly-diddily (neighbourino) overdrive thing happening, which makes for a way smoother experience vs. trying to dial in the generally quite scooped BD-2 with the single tone control.

Not sure I'd describe the BD-2 circuit as having a 'splatty decay' as such, I just find it very DIRECT and '80s noise rock'-approved.

Were there not a load of mojo mods in the 00s designed to deal with splatty decay on the BD-2?

Maybe! The Mooer BD-2 copy I've got has a switchable mode (which I guess is the Keeley mod), but it feels more like a mid bump than anything; it doesn't really change the core sound, at least not with the low-medium gain settings I use. Maybe that's part of it.

I pretty much always have some level of chorus (like) and reverb on... though mostly amp reverb.
Current chorusing-ish effect is Keely 30ms, it's almost always on, and has built in reverb that's usually set around 8:30-9:00, that also feeds into amp reverb. Dirt and such are application based, especially since I'm normally running Bass VI through the signal path.

I do what Bacchus wrote - a Timmy clone that goes into an OCD clone into a solid state amp. Nothing beats OCD at emulating a tube amp imo. It lacks definition/transparency on its own but Timmy brings it out. Timmy is probably the best OD to stack with other ODs.

I had a made by Mike Timmy clone years ago, but it got fried accidentally and although it still kinda worked, it was never the same.

Had a few OCD pedals in the past, both fulltone and clones. I really liked the Mooer hustle drive clone.

I keep hearing good thinks about the EHX glove Marshall type pedal.

Caline Pure Sky is a great Timmy clone. Mosky makes Obsessive Overdrive in a nano format although all Mosky pedals are built from regular electric components(not SMD) and can be modded. Both pedals are dirt cheap.

Took the plunge on a pure sky, £15 used isn’t too bad?
Hoping it stacks nicely with the fuzz face, bloody love that fuzz face.

They are great pedals and usually work nicely with any dirt/fuzz pedal helping to tighten them up, but I'm not sure about Fuzz Face as they are notoriously finicky.

The Pure Sky is a great pedal, not sure why I ever got rid of mine. Didn’t ever try it with the FF but let us know how it goes.

So had this for a couple of weeks now and so far I love it. I can see why people rave about them for the price point.

Can’t remember what my old MBM Timmy was like, but setting it to a mid gain always on base tone it really shines. Makes my little MG10 clean channel sound like a more expensive amp

Stacks beautifully with the fuzz face. I’ve set the fuzz face how TPS recommends after meeting Philip sayce. All knobs on full, then turn both down till the background hiss/noise dies down. Stomping on the FF gives all that fuzz goodness and volume pot dynamics but a little more controllable via the pure sky smoothing everything out.

Having the wah in between has solved the buffer issues with the fuzz face and the wah.

Think I’m now ready to finalise my pedal choices onto a board.
