I know that a few folks here were interested in the old Boss SG-1 Slow Gear.
Buildyourownclone.com has one for about $70. Considering that they run from $150 - $200 on the bay, it's a pretty good deal, plus you get the fun of building one yourself.

I think they have/had a clone of another discontinued and overpriced pedal - the Boss VB-2 vibrato - which goes for around $400 on the bay. I've heard samples of it and the original boss and I just don't get it - the Vibrato on my Deluxe Memory Man completely smokes it.

slow gear isn't that cool of an effect, unique though.

The slow gear is pretty worthless musically, it's just valuable for some reason. You'd be better off just getting a volume pedal and rockin' it steel style.

You can get some kinda cool slightly compressed attack strumming sounds with em though. And anything fast would be a nightmare to do well with a volume pedal.
They're well overpriced and overhyped though.

Doesn't the overpriced nature have something to do with Sigur Ros, or am I just imaging that?

Haha.. nah, Slowgears have been of the "snake oil" status for years, ditto the Pan/Tremolo and Vibrato pedals.
I bet violin bow prices have gone up because of the Ros though..

wouldn't that pedal be completly useless if you could do swells?

He means if you can volume swell then is the slow gear redundant. Personally I don't think anyone can swell that fast and repeatedly, so no.

Aye. I think used in conjuction with a few other effects, it could be pretty interesting.. but still not worth the money to me.

The guyatone is worth a pop, I reckon with delay and pitch shifter it'd be hilarious.

Looking at all the guyatone micro series online, the samples sound pretty nice, they also have a tuner with LEDs and decent sized display like Boss.

The micro Digital Delay from the Guyatone line looks excellent - if I was recommending someone a delay it would be that for their first.

Behringer now has a slow-gear clone, as well as a Boss DC-2 clone, a DMM clone, a VB-2 clone, and a bunch of other stuff, and most of it is already on their price list. The SG-1 clone is 45 dollars I think.
