the top is an ashdown MAG-300 (rack version), i wanted to go for one of those ampeg b-series tops but they had this one at the store too, so i just gave it a shot, and instead of spending double the money on a top that made me feel like 'yeah, sounds alright' i spent 300bucks on a top that made me feel like 'that's it !', hehe...i just liked its sound and simplicity, kind of raw but in a classy way, sure, it's cheap, it's made in china, but i'm not very familiar with ashdown and..well, a 300 euro top that sounds swell... hard to not get one of those eh ? i like the look too, the VU-meter's orange when you turn it on.

i thought it might be an Ashdown - seriously those are good bass amps. Most of the bass players inthe bands I love play Ashdown amps - they're pretty damn good and have a high expensive range too. The bass player in my band borrowed one at an equipment share gig recently, it sounded wicked.
And the VU meters are ace.

I've never played an ashdown amp before but my friend plays a b-series Ampeg head through an ashdown cab and I fucking hate his sound! The b-series is by far the worst sounding ampeg amp ever! It would be ok if it were cheaper but for the price that they want for it, it's definitely not worth it! I've never played a b-series that I've liked, so it might just be his head that I hate and not his cab.
Haha, goodtimes...I play an ABM 500 EVO II head nearly every Sunday (when I'm not on guitar) through a punchy 4x10 cab, it's an absolute monster with a really strong harmonic response (can get muddy if you're not careful). Scares the old people from the front of church, too.Mike wrote:They make such pretty stuff:

not so long ago they updated their site with a new line of cabs and tops, i don't like the look of those new cabs that much, i didn't like the blue speakers in the abm series either, hehe, those new heads .. it's ampeg housing but more colorful/retro eh?
those ampeg b-series heads didn't impress me either, they sounded a bit weak, i guess when it comes to ampeg it's better to save up the extra bucks for an svt top .. but if this MAG does a good job i think i'd just stick with ashdowns anyway... i like the ABM heads, hybrids
and their current guitar amp line..well... it seems to be aimed at nu metal bands or something
another bass amplicifaction brand i'm interested in is aguilar, they're in the same price range as ampegs but because they're not as popular as ampeg over here (yet) they cost way more than the price they go for in the US (shops over here can't order containers full of 'em to keep the shipping costs to a minimum because there's no big demand for them ..so lots of shipping costs; higher price)
but their DB line of speaker cabs is very very yum

i've always loved the way ashdowns look with the vu meters on everything. now that's classy.

so i was home today and finally got a chance to mess around a bit with eq settings, recorded some stuff too, it's cut here and there because else it would've been even more boring, but anyway, i found a pretty nice setting, lots of treble and midrange, too bad my pedalboard is at the rehearsalspot
