Yeah you are another ?5 still for the screw drivers and another ?5 is you don't already have a multimeter. Admittedly it isn't the best soldering iron but you would be another ?10-15. So I'd been having trouble with the new circuit... the footswitch was crapping and after all my rewiring work (taking out guts and putting new "flying leads" from the 2 points on the PCB), it turns out my main problem was the crappy pots I was using! DAMN YOU MAPLIN!
The only decent pots I had lying about were in the discarded Jazzmaster rhythm circuit, so I plonked the 500k ohm tone pot in place of the stock 47ohm resistor! Of course, the dial only really has an effect in the last 10% of the rotation, but it's good enough for me.
Either way, it sounds great, works perfectly and I got to stack the 2 roller dials on the shaft to act as a dial for added mojo:
