Is there any way to rectify that difference? Other than setting the neck at 10 and the bridge at say 6 for normal playing?
I have an invader in my Esquire, and I know I like how that pickup sounds, but all my guitars are just big ol' motherhumbuckers. I'm looking for some diversity and some bright jingly jangly sounds.
I think the deArmond style pickups might be worth thinkng about. I think they're mostly humbucker size, and sound different to most other things:
I decided to go with the P94 neck position and invader bridge position. I'll lower the bridge pickup so that it's not quite as high output, but I figure, with this set up, I can have a moderate overdrive to give me some gritty jangly sounds in the neck position, and then go into noize with the flick of a selector switch.
What I'm really curious to hear is the middle position.
