What pedal would you add to my board?

Pickups, pedals, amps, cabs, combos

What pedal would you add to my board?

Post by Thom »

At some point in the future I'm going to ditch the Big Muff from my board as I just don't use it any more.
So was curious to see what you guys would add to my set up?
Doesn't have to be another dirt box, whatever you would add if you had to play through my pedals.

Chain is: Wah - Fab OD - Big Muff - Clone - Stone - Tunamelt - Fab Echo - MD-3 - TU-2 - RC-2

Why the hell is the Orange channel selector white? That's just plain confusing!

I know way little about pedals so I don't think I'll be recommending anything as my knowledge hasn't quite surpassed the "DS-2 is awesome!" stage yet.

Yeah I know, silly. But the LED is Orange, so that's a little better.

Hmm.. you have a lot the bases pretty well covered there:

Dirt : FAB OD, Orange Overdrive
Modulation: Clone, Stone, Tremelo
TimeBased : Echo, Delay, Looper.

Nothing really missing I'd say. You could get a RAT2 to give you a Marshally flavoured overdrive or perhaps a Compressor like a Dynacomp or the Behringer version if you play a lot of picking you want to be smoothed out and loud?

Noisegate?
Pitchshifter?

I guess the other main possibilites are:

Flanger
Pitchshifter/Whammy
Octaver
EQ
Volume pedal
Gnarly retro fuzz
Plain ol' clean boost (pummel amp for more gain or more volume, depending on placement)
Ring modulator

What would I replace it with? Let me think..

A POG, a Microsynth, Moog MURF, Dano French Toast.

Good calls. I think the Orange would like an EQ (you can use it to Clean boost too).

Cheers guys.

I'm thinking maybe pitchshifter - though not sure how much I'd actually use it.
I'm getting a Penpen boost, and OD, so will see after I get those plugged in.
Rat has been something I've been thinking about for a while too.

I've found the Boss PS-5 surprisingly useful, the ability to mix it with your bypassed signal to taste (something the Whammy can't do) gives a lot of possibilities.. from general subtle octave up/down overtones to weird radio interference sounds using the exp. pedal. And of course all the actual intelligent harmoiser stuff on it.

But yeah, it's a lot of dough for something you'd maybe use a few times in a set.

+1.

i got one cheap off ebay (ร‚ยฃ25 inc P&P), and it's actually one of my most useful pedals, as you can boost / shape/ change the output of other pedals. def recommend getting one.

Yeah, I'm going to have to go and have a go on one - like you said they aren't cheap, but sounds like they are pretty versatile.

I take it the Fishz 'N Chipz can put out a beefy clean boost if you just use the level slider?

The LAL Rattle Crow.

It sounds like a big crow being strangled.
