boss line selector ?beware, another clean blend thread

i'm not a boss fan, the only boss pedal on my board that i really like is their tuner... but the guy who was going to build me a clean blend/parallel loop box-thing is taking forever to get it done and it's annoying me because i have to stay away from the BM, phaser and Blue Box at gigs because i lose too much punch and clarity of my clean signal (bass)

but this boss line selector; i was wondering, can it do this:

-always keep your clean (dry signal) on top of your effected signal ?
-does it let you adjust the volume of the fx ànd your dry signal ?

-put a couple of pedals in one loop so you can have more than one effect on with just one stomp (when you just engage them before you need them, to then stomp on the line selector to have them on all at once)

it's prolly not the best or most versatile loop box on the market since it only has one switch but i dunno...... is there anyone on here who has one of these ?

I own a Boss LS-2, so i can answer your questions:

-always keep your clean (dry signal) on top of your effected signal ?

yes it has a "A+B mix" mode, that lets you blend the 2 loops (A and B) together. If you don't put any effects in one of the loops, it becomes just the dry signal (obviously). Both loops have independent volume controls, so you can mix them how ever you like.

-put a couple of pedals in one loop so you can have more than one effect on with just one stomp (when you just engage them before you need them, to then stomp on the line selector to have them on all at once)

yup, thats exactly what it was designed for! Put your clean pedals in loop A, your fuzz boxes in loop B, and boom you can switch between multiple pedals with one stomp, or between a loop and dry.

I think it's a pretty versatile pedal actually; You can even just use it as a transparent gain boost. Personally i use it to switch between 2 amps (so i can play clean stuff through my Fender Eighty-Five, and then switch to my Marshall for distortion). I've also used it to output to 2 amps simulatiously, and it sounds great!

By the look of the HC review I just read, it looks like the pots do indeed blend in whatever is in the loop into the main input/output.

i find it odd tho..there's an a/b mix option but not a bypass/a+b, a or b -mix option.... so how would you do it ? getting your clean sound on top of all your effects...

so i'd have:

bass-->tuner in tuner out-->LS in LS out -->amp

LS a send-->BM+BB--> LS a return

LS mode: a<->bypass ....but can you mix the bypass with line a ?

or do the level control knobs on the LS only become active when you select the a+b mix-mode ?

prolly a stupid question, i wish i coud just test it myself, would be more obvious then

in any of the modes, if you dont put anything in one of the loops, then that loop will just be your clean sound.

so put the pedal to in "A+B mix" mode. you'll then have your effects in loop A. Nothing in loop B. You can then blend the bypassed signal (loop B)with the effects (loop A) by adjusting the A/B volume knobs.

Then to totally remove the effects, stomp on the pedal and it goes into bypass mode.
Bypass should be identical to loop B, unless you've moved the volume knob either way on the B level control

goddamn, i was so going to get that sansamp thing first, but this Line Selector.... it's more of apriority thing... it seems like it can finally solve my long-time problem...or maybe i should just order both...

i sent an email to hotwire audio, guy says he builds true bypass loop boxes but without a blend control on there ..too bad, they're half the price od the boss tho...but this little pedal seems to be the only one of its kind 'on the non-custom market'

so i can blend in my celean by putting nothing in loop a or b; so just connect the send and return with a patch cable, just like that ?
and then my bass through the input, and output to the amp

i heard about people also using these as a clean boost (with the volume control), i always thought the volume knobs had no effect on the clean (bypassed) signal, seeing you get your 'clean only' when you 'turn off' the pedal

they're just talking about using it solely to push your amp, in clean mode, into a light to moderate overdrive.

order both - you can get a LS-2 cheap 2nd hand off ebay

It's actually more versatile than the manual states. Plug output leads from A and B send into 2 amps, and you can switch between amps with a footstomp. likewise, plug 2 different guitars into the A and B return jacks, and you can have 2 guitars going into one amp. You can probably even belnd 2 instruments together.

did i also mention is has a 9V output jack, so you can power other pedals off it?

You don't need to connect the send and returns with a patch cable - if nothing is plugged into the jacks for a particular loop, it just gives you a bypassed "clean" signal when you switch to that loop, via internal wiring. But that loop is still volume-controllable. The bypass mode isn't (obviously).

soo, using the A->B->bypass mode, with nothing connected to the send/return jacks, you could have 3 different levels of clean sound.

it's about €95 new here, i searched for a second hand one, put up an ad, hopefully i'll get some response, i don't buy off ebay... i hate it (read: no paypal, visa etceterasss)

it's overpriced, prolly also because there's not many pedals like that out there, but in a way i feel that it might be worth it... finally solve things

i picked it up yetserday, secondhand but it's factory fresh, actually, the dude just got the wrong pedal.
unfortunately my pedalboard is at the rehearsalspot so i'll have to wait 'til sat to try it out with some fuzz/dist but i did have the tuna melt lying around so i did a quick test with that one in the loop, with both guitar and bass, with guitar it's not really a must to have a clean blend tho, but with bass it really makes a difference, you still have that 'punch' and clarity from your dry signal and you can just blend it with the effect, it's good as a boost pedal too, anyway, i'm glad i got it, seems like a handy little pedal.

so i slept like 3hrs or something, was up early and now i feel ..well, kinda shitty... but not that shitty..because.. the sansamp arrived this noon.

i did a quick recording, just trying some settings but it sounds kind of sterile/plastic-ish with the interface clippage, some tones coming thru better than others, my shitty playing etcetc but still..sounds very promising and i can't wait to try it out on a bigger amp



will do a 'proper' demo thru an amp and with the rest of my pedalboard later this week if you want me to.

second (little bit dirty setting) around 1:40
things get dirty at 3:20

at the end i left out the plectrum, for all the pick-hatesterz
and yes..there's some shitty ass tapping in there, i know

but..i'm already loving this little box

it's a great clean boost, it respects teh dynamics of your playing, even adds to it with certain settings (knobs are veeeerrry sensitive) so the accents come out better, i like the overdrive too, can go from metallic/clear progressive to mellow vintage toob ovedrive.

i'm not sure where i'm going to place it yet, i was thinking about doing it like this:

bass-->tuner-->line selector-->loop A:/bluebox-big muff-chorus-phaser/
line selector output -->sansamp bass driver-->amp

loop A is blended with the dry signal, with the sansamp between my bass and the amp

i want to keep the characteristics of my amp so i'm not going thru the send/return loop of the amp but i might give it a shot anyway
