Koch Pedaltone
Anybody ever used one of these? They're stupid expensive, but the description sounds exactly like what I'm looking for...

Ah-so! Gotchya.zoinks wrote:it means that i would love to have that, but the price is way to high for me. I would love to hear some clips of it though.
I'm thinking if it sounded as good as it looks like it should, I'd try to find one used. There's one on Ebay right now at 311.00, but god knows what it'll end up at. Alot of the harmony central reviewers seem to have gotten them in the $400's...arcadedave wrote:I don't think anyone here has one I'm afraid. But God, for that money why not just get another amp?
Thing is, I have amps. I'm looking for something like this Koch thing - a pedal, or a portable pre, that could be used in the studio, and/or hooked up to a power amp/speaker. The Orange tiny terror looks fun too, though it's also overpriced, and seems like a one trick pony... I would neverMike wrote:Seriously though, get yourself a nice amp instead. Or two amps.
pay retail for the Koch, and it may well sound like garbage, I've never heard it... But, the feature set sounds exactly what I want.

lol.. you're saying the Orange is overpriced and you're considering an $800+ pre-amp? It'll get you great sounds from across the spectrum in the studio. Hardly one trick.
If you're looking for studio sounds that are versatile look no further than downloading a hooky copy of GuitarRig2. It's excellent. Fuck this preamp shit.

Mike - read my posts - I've never suggested paying $800 for the preamp. I said if it was really good, i'd try to find a cheap one! Plus that thing is alot more than a preamp... The Orange does sound good, from the clips I've heard...Mike wrote:lol.. you're saying the Orange is overpriced and you're considering an $800+ pre-amp?...
I can see the benefit of having a tube powered pedal with all the options, but the pedal board like that is going to be very dependant upon the sound of the amp you are using anyways. As far as studio work, I would still want it to go through a guitar amp/cabinet as direct recording still doesn't get the same tone. The only real use for this I would say is if you gigged all the time and wanted the flexibility of say a 4 channel amp, but did not want to spend the $. Say you had a twin or a Roland jc 120 that had great clean tone, but wanted to use that pedal instead of 2 or 3 other dirt pedals. Still overpriced even for this. At 200-250 used maybe, but not more.
Also Koch are mainly european metal amps right? My knowledge is a little limited here. If that is the case, I would want to play it. Tube powered drive pedals are alot more touchy with how they sound with a particular setup as opposed to normal pedals. I have had a few and they definitely need a high quality clean tone to work with.
The Tiny Terror is awesome....I actually got the 1st one that was available here in San Diego and the thing kicks ass. As far as for studio work, it would (and will be soon hopefully) great. It is not the most versatile live amp unless you use alot of pedals, use only one tone or so, or want to spend time fiddling knobs all night....In the studio that does not matter as you have plenty of time to twek the knobs and dial in tone.

That's exactly what I need, and that's why I was so attracted to the feature set of the pedal - virtually a 4 channel preamp, with a power amp stage, and solo boost on each channel - great for live work, Plus it's got the fx loop, and very versatile connectivity, even speaker sim, which could be valuable in recording, demo work, etc... However, as I, and everyone else has noted, it's WAY too expensive.mickie08 wrote:I can see the benefit of having a tube powered pedal with all the options...The only real use for this I would say is if you gigged all the time and wanted the flexibility of say a 4 channel amp...
I dunno - I've never even heard of Koch, so my main question is, has anybody ever heard one of these things, or any Koch amp for that matter? Better yet, does anyone know of something with similar features, that's portable and affordable?!mickie08 wrote:Also Koch are mainly european metal amps right?...
I think Mesa has a simliar thing to....V-twin pedal or something. I don;t think it is much cheaper though...Maybe a little as there are more of them made.
From what I have heard (and it is not alot) Koch is known for high end, high gain rock amps....Could be totally wrong on that.
