SD Phat Cats
Any of yous guys have experience with these? Looking at a pair for my new project. The reviews are generally positive, although most claim that they don't quite have the balls that real P90s do. Thought I'd see what you think of them.

Hey, so I ended up getting some GFS Mean 90s instead of the Phat Cats. Thought I'd post my opinions in here instead of making a new thread.
I really didn't like them at first, but now I'm sort of getting used to their quirks. My biggest complaints are that the two pickups aren't matched very well...the bridge is thin with lots of mids and less bass; the neck is dark, has a ton of bass and not much in the way of highs. Also, the two pickups combined are out of phase with eachother. I'm not even sure how it happened. The only thing that I can figure is that the stock Epiphone wiring must be kind of funky. (To get them working, I simply spliced the existing wires into the Mean 90 pickup leads.) The neck pickup clean has a very RHCP type of sound. The bridge is tough to describe. It's not as ballsy as my tele, but it cuts through the mix better. Overdriven, both are very different from any Fender single coil sound I've heard. And I'm not too familiar with real P90s, so I can't say how they compare to those. I did take some sound clips, but they came out terrible, so I'll take some more later. But I'm thinking I maybe should have gone with the Dream 90s instead of the Means.

I hope things tonally balance out for you there Dillon.
I like the Phat Cat because it isn't nearly as midrangey as P90s, but still packs a hefty punch. A retarded noob dood from guitar center ended up giving us a bridge P.C. instead of neck position, but having it in Cinder's old Tele of ours was still quite nice(no off-center pole piece woes, etc), as was it when it was in the bridge of our friend's horrible Gib LP Studio...Actually, it sounded amazing when overdriven in teh Paulz.
As for now, the Phat Cat is waiting to get into the neck of a yet-to-be-purchased Emily the Strange G310, and Cindi is specific about having a Fishman TOM Powerbridge and coilsplit on the GFS Loudmouth (Easy there, kiddo!) with it as well, although she knows that the (filtertron powered?) Jazzmaster-12 will no doubt precede it on our must-buy list.
Nothing's changed 'round these parts, really.
