wow. a simple "i have no idea, i just like the colour" would suffice.
shad, if you want to know the advantages of using sprague orange drops in your guitar, go to FDP or the Les Paul Forum. if you don't want to go to those sites because you find those dudes pretentious, then it's safe to say you don't need an orange drop.

Snake oil.
I really wish people would put that effort into playing and learning the guitar rather than worrying about every tiny part of it.

i talked it all the timeMike wrote:You realised that orange drops are just a method of making a capacitor, it's not "better" or "worse" than others.
ffs those things are literally two a penny when I was studying. Buy from a guitar store and it's £3. RIDICULOUS.
they are good and trustable caps
i trust more on Silver Foil , Mylar , Mica than ceramics
funcion is samme do tone filter
difference is on model you get .22 or .47 or .3 or .1
build is just question , what you like more
its like guitar shapes , personal choice
i trust in spague orange drops more than ceramics

I would say yes and no, I noticed on import guitars the electronics are the weakest points. Sometimes for less than $6(new pots, sturdy switchcraft jack) you can improve the tone of a cheapo guitar. People first thing they do is rush and get new pickups, but if you get better electronics it can make a big difference and you might not have to change the pickups at all. And its not expensive as Mike said, if you know the sources to buy. The hype and the overcharge and guitar mythology is the "Snake Oil" part.Doog wrote:Snake oil.

People should use their heads and ears, and not just assume that a part is gonna make or break the whole thing.

Don't get me wrong, pots and switches can be shitty. But tonal differences between makes of capacitors? Git tae fuck.jcyphe wrote:I would say yes and no, I noticed on import guitars the electronics are the weakest points. (the standpoint, not you in particular, Joe.)
And I would agree with that to a large extent.Doog wrote:

Exactly. There's a time and a place for needing the best, but capacitors? That's like buying a gold plated toilet with diamond encrusted toilet paper, and then filling your toilet with fine wine. It's all very nice and flashy and you can rest assured you paid for the best, but you're just going to take a shit it in it like everyone else and then flush it away.Mike wrote:It's just a capacitor.
neck ???deadonkey wrote:man, icey, that's at least a 4 piece body, must have no tone and sustayne.

The wine analogy stands, but fuck cheap toilet paper. There's a reason Andrex use a puppy as their mascot.Malik wrote:Exactly. There's a time and a place for needing the best, but capacitors?
