it seems like you're spitting these things out left and right now that there is 1 forum to post it all in.

Really all of these are awesome man! I love it. i makes me want to make my own. right now i'm still saving to start the XII with you so yeah.

I wrote to the guy at provide.net who has all the Fender info. He wrote me right back, but didn't say much. I asked him if he had one he could trace. He said they aren't expensive--he sold his for $1200. I guess if you're used to new Les Pauls that isn't much. But if I could find one for that price I would consider it. In fact, I would buy it, trace it, and sell it again. They must be in landfills all over the country.

yea...poplar. I made the template from that crappy 1/4" stuff. I forget what it's called, but it's not particle board. It's like half wood, half cardboard or something. You know...you can get it all day long over at Home Depot in 2'x4' sheets...

Does a template wear/break down over time? I guess the router isn't smashing up against it. Do you use that material because it gives a crisp edge?

MDF? The legendary material of the british DIY scene.

yes it does. each guitar gets smaller and smaller. It could be MDF...

I'm thinking of getting into plastics or plexiglass or something. Making a new template after only 3 guitars is bullshit.

Also the Bakersfield DIY scene. Mosley used poplar on Moserites as well. It's a good materal for guitars. It's light but tough. It takes a stain well and looks like swamp ash sort-of. The grain is consisent and makes a good tone wood. I want to make a poplar amp cab and see how that sounds.

mdf is what i use,
plywood shreds too much and it doesn't really keep shjape all that well, i have already tried it.

I meant something thicker than 1/4" 3/8", perhaps?
