i guess it's not worth sending pictures either. for 10 bucks, i'd settle for a crude MSPaint drawing of two ovals with some dots in the middle and a speech bubble saying "i am a humbucker =)"

For ten bucks, you can use it as a place holder for real pickups or who knows, maybe it can give you that unique tone that only really cheap pickups can get. Maybe just a lot of hum and squeaky sounds.

But then again, when you strip away all the branding and snobbery and money, a pickup is still basically just a couple of magnets and some wire...

True enough, and I don't buy a lot of the hyperbole about magnet material - but number of windings and the size of the magnet does make a difference. You're spot on that it's probably cheaper than a humbucker cover is from a parts site though!

I just also have to think about something like the original Danelectro Lipstick pickups. Those were the cheapest pickups on the cheapest guitar, but they still had that something special. Now you can pay a premium for boutique versions of what was originally a bargain bin pickup.

Which isn't to say that these Squier ones are gonna be brilliant. They still have the potential to sound like a kazoo wrapped in a bath towel. but for ten dollars, why the hell not?
