ok, first of all the guitar is in a bit of a state. Dirty, saddle screw missing, neck pickup not working, both control knobs missing, pickups 1cm from strings and can't raise them (foam underneath must have gone).

But despite all that, sounds really nice, if a little low output. Certainly better than my Jag-stang and stock CIJ jaguar.

Neck is pretty chunky though, and will take some getting used to. It feels like the neck on my old Squier Jagmaster II, cept thicker.

but yeh, it was a decent deal for £250 (these things usually go for £450-£500 in the UK).

ive just had a quick listen, and guess what - the intonation on the D is almost spot on.

so it's possible the screw removal was intentional.

Man this guitar is filthy though - previous owner was a smoker. man even the strings are gross, i hate that sh#t. it came with a deluxe gig bag as well - IF YOU'RE GOING TO SMOKE, PUT YOUR GUITAR AWAY WHEN YOU'RE NOT PLAYING!!

It looks like the prev owner ran that saddle out so far it went off the end of the screw.

I guess it wouldn't make sense to put the screw onto the inside of the bridge. That's a neat looking unit with the three jag pups. New to me.

dude, i have more money than sense. Also in the past month ive just sold 3 amps and a bass. That said, i still have too many guitars, so im probably going to sell off my Jag-Stang. probably the right time to do it, saw one go for £450 the other day on ebay

Whoever writes the forum descriptions considers the Cyclone a shortscale. My parents brought me up never to question the Forumdescriptionthingywriter. I suppose 24-3/4 is short for Fender.... but now I wonder, does that make those new Squier Teles shortscale? Or are they all technically Paulscale?

ok, i just took the strings off and opened it up.

Trem cavity was filthy, so cleaned it out and tightened the 3 trem springs (i like my strat trems to sit flush with the body - it was floating).

Took off pickguard, and cleaned it up. Interesting thing - there are two types of AVI jag pickup, "bridge" (higher output, yellow cables) and "neck" (lower output, reverse wound, white cable). Anyway, this guitar has the "neck" version at the bridge and neck, and the "bridge" version in the middle.

This means combine any pickup with the middle and you get hum-cancelling. But also means neck + bridge wont hum cancel, and bridge is a bit weak. I might swap them and swap the pickup selector switches - looked like there was enough wire that i wouldnt need to resolder.

No obvious sign of a problem with the neck pickup. Will have to remove it, test it and test the switch. boo.

EDIT: oh yeh and the foam under the pickups is totally squished. I'll have to get some more from work to raise them up 1cm.

Are those switches set up as one on/off switch per pickup? Or is each switch "off" in the middle with two phase options like Mustang switches? Or something else?

Good for you for cleaning it up. I love that shit. It's like fossil hunting. Strange about the pups. Maybe the person who had it didn't know what they were doing.

Ok, get some 1/8" surgical tube (those old folks medical supply places have it). You need less that a foot of it, so you might be able to just get some. Aquarium hose works too. Meausre how much the switch sticks out of the pg. Divide that distance in half and cut six pieces of hose to that length. Take the switch off, leave the screw in the hole, and put a piece of the hose on the screw (just like a pick up adjustment spring). Remount the switch. That will lower the switch out of way for your strumming but still leave access for you to use the switch.

they're just one/off, like jaguar switches. no phase options.

easier said than done. Look at the distance between the bridge and the left-most switch - there isn't a lot of room to strum, specially when im playing hard.
But then again, i used to hit the switches on my Jag-Stang all the time, but that stopped once i got used to it.

cheers for tip, might give it a go. I work in a hospital so could get some tubing quite easily.
