$700 would be a pretty fucking awesome price for any guitar that is lefty.

I don't mind getting no.2. Drop the L at the end to donate lefty though. All maple neck I take it? Where is the pickup selector going? Can I be cheeky and get a string through hardtail version? Any contourz? Wait the pickguard wouldn't work as a string through hard tail. No matter I want this guitar for the pickguard+lipsticks alone and I don't need sustain.

I have questions, so many questions. But certainly put me down for one.

you didn't answer the price question...would you be completely opposed to paying more than $700? I really want to keep these guitars reasonably priced...especially for you guys, but we have a shop to pay for...and $700 will just cover all the building/shipping costs.

What do you think?

Would you be opposed to building one without the electronics in it?But routed for 2 single coils in the body and PG.
I have a bucket full of electronics.
I've only been doing this for 6 or 7 months now.How the hell do this stuff accumulate.
You're an honest guy trying to make a living,I wouldn't want to cut your throat.I'm sure whatever price you come up with would be reasonable.You have to make some profit or it wouldn't be worth you building these things.
I think you would probably have to build one first and see what your cost is,you don't want to be guessing at it and take a beating.

The top horn is still huge. I'm not digging it, it just seems too big to be a shortscale. The angle is pointing up too high away from the body, I think a bit narrower suits it more:

What's more, I'll take a narrowed down left version myself, that thing looks hot the wrong way round:

How do you guys want to deal with payments? Cash in the mail is a pain, but dave is open to letting us use his paypal.

Also, I'm gonna bet these first 4 guitars, if I were to start right away wouldn't be available for shipping for at least 2 months, but it would help greatly to get some start up cashzorz!

Perhaps, if you don't have it all to send right away, youse guys can send it in on some sort of payment plan? With each payment recieved, be sure to PM dddave and let him know that it was you that sent it (screenname) and for what project (Mercury-lefty SN: 1 or whatever.)

I'm open to any other ideas, btw.

agreed. I like that better, too. Like I said, it was just a roughy sketch. As for the Reverse righty, sure! I can't see any problem with making that.

Remember folks! These guitars will have the very FIRST serial numbers, and I can easily see these guitars selling. Maybe not 500,000...but, I'd be willing to bet a few hundred, at least.

I'm also going to include a gig bag, a certificate of authenticity, and properly printed up tag. dave is into silkscreening, and we've talked about making up some NoHo Guitars tee-shirts to give away with each guitar sold, but we'll see.

I think a deposit is fair. Paypal is the only viable option really for those of us outside the US.
A couple of months to save some cash is good.
We'll need to discuss specs in more detail I guess - euan had some good questions.
Also, are you going to be offering a range of colour and pickguard combinations? Or limit it to start with?

Well, for one...all pickguards will be white, and we haven't discussed the body colors really. For the bodies, I want vintage auto colors...much like Fender. Coral is a color I'm REALLY digging...but, feel free to offer up some ideas. Also, I think for now, we may limit the colors to only 3 or so (paint is uber expensive and we're gonna be buying it by the gallon.)

As for specs:

24" scale
3+3 headstock- matching
lipstick tube pups
hardtail (not string-through) or tremolo (still working on the trem idea)
250k CTS pots
all cloth wiring
Shadow knobs (I'm open to better ideas)
vintage frets (or similar)
rosewood fretboard
maple neck (bolt-on and Fender compatible)
tuners (not sure yet)
nut (prolly bone)
3 way switch (neck/neck+bridge/bridge)
1 tone
1 volume

Sounds good to me - glad you're going with a rosewood fretboard.
Colour-wise, I'd love a guitar in Shell Pink

Where do you think you're going to put the pickup selector? Lower horn like a Jazzy?

Remember when doing lefties we need lefty tuners and I think the pots are wired up reverse.

no such thing as lefty tuners when going the 3+3 route...(I don't think...) and the pots are all wired the same...

Aye you are right Aug. Total brain freeze there. Though the electronics is a weird one. Some of my guitars turn one way to go up, and the others are the oppisote way. One feels more natural than the other.

Lefty nut though, I know that

Yeah totally. Fender have got it the right way round in my opinion, ie. pots go anti-clockwise to increase. The Gibsons I have played don't and it just feels like they couldn't be bothered to switch a couple of wires round.

dave and I could never keep with the sheer number of neck required, so we're going to outsource for necks with blank headstocks, I think.

Fair enough.

I think $700 sounds a fair price - That's Â£351 by today's exchange rate. Perhaps if you let people choose their custom pickguard or have a non standard colour or something like that you could up your margin a little to compensate?

$700 could be your standard hardtail, red, white pickguard version

whereas $770-$800 could maybe get you your own choice of colour/pickguard and/or pickup combination? That lines up at around Â£400, these prices line up with what it costs to get one of those Japanese Jaguars or Mustangs from an ebay store shipped to your door.
