Here's the progress on the Vista Musicmaster I bought from shadow.
Aside from the nonsence of last night, I got things off on a better note today. I picked up the right resistor for the mute and was just a little more organized to go today. I wired in the 9K resistor, dropped the pg back in place and started lowering the action. I have it at just about 1.5mm or so with no buzz until I tune down to C. It's super fast, and pretty comfortable, although a bit narrower at the nut that I go for.
Next I tried out that mute, and was less than impressed. When I talked to Timhulio about the values, I know he mentioned 9K, but it doesn't do that much. It takes a little off of the top, but definately not the difference he stated with his Hag. It could be the output from the Tone Zone is alot higher than the Hag's pups, but I think I'm not going to dick with it. I'll read a little before I finally commit.
The pot is a linear taper, so I figured I'd get a 1M audio and use the shitch to toggle from series to parallel instead, that would about accomplish the same thing. The sound is definately a bit darker that on my Charvel, so the higher value should help. That Charvel meters out to 700k (weird) so if that's available I'll go that route.
I'm thinking the fake Kluson are going to go. I really like the look, but the reliability isn't there. I might get some of those Grover Kluson-a-likes that Icey posts about every other month.
First thing I order is a pg and cover. This is a great look and feeling guitar, so . I'll post pics when things start to come together.
