question for mikey boy

hey mike,

i saw you vid about the h20 mod for the blues driver. i myself have a blues driver, which i kinda like, but feel something missing.
would you recommend the mod the blues driver? i just thinking wether to mess around and mod, or just go out and get something better.

i quite like the sound of your od-3, i have an sd-1, it's all mid/treble and not a alot bass. i was offered an od-1 a while back, but steered clear.

OD-1's are pretty thin, so you might have done the right thing there. In my opinion the OD-3 is a great overdrive. I don't own it anymore but it sounded great, much fuller in the bass than most pedals.

The H20 mod, hmm.. depends what you want from the pedal? The BD-2 I liked and it had a great standard overdrive sound that I enjoyed but I'm a finicky bastard and that splatty decay just fucked me right off and bothered me. the H20 mod does not fix this. It does however open the pedal up a bit and it sounds better at high volumes as a result, the silly ice pick tone control is also smoothed out.

It's worth doing if you enjoy nerding around with pedals - otherwise no.

hmmmm, i like nerding pedals, at this moment i have a small stone in pieces that i am modding to fix that blasted volume drop.

yeah the decay is annoying to me as well, and the tone control is either too much or not enough, in terms of treble and bass. theres not much in between. where do you get the mod from? is it easy?

Fairly easy, it's a cramped board though and you'll need to use the desoldering braid. Clean work is necessary and not rushing is very important too.

theres so many mods on there, unsure wether to do my cs-3 as well, it was ok to start with, now i'm not so sure.

is yours the h20 or h20 plus mod?

Just the standard H20, I've sold it since. Got a nice price for it too.

cool, i think the blues drivers hold there price well dont they. i was ripped off when i got mine, cost 65 quid. you can get them for 50 now.

Yeah, they're always in demand. You can always get Â£50 for them.
