Tom Morello Style Strat [project planning]
well im thinking about piecing together my first project guitar, i've got all the stuff i would need except a LP style 3-way
sorry all i've got is a drawing at the moment, havn't placed anything together yet
but any advice or comments would be sweet
basic specs:
Standard Scale neck [American, Maple neck, Maple Fretboard]
MIM Strat Body
EMG 60 in the neck
EMG 81 in the Bridge
3 way selector switch [like a les paul / sg] would have to cut my pickguard
Knobs [top to bottom] Volume, neck; Volume, bridge; Overall Tone
Originally thinking about a blue body w/ a white perloid pickgaurd, but im open for any suggestions of what you guys think would look pretty sweet.
pic i drew up of it:

the squier detinatior
Body: Alder
Neck: Maple, C-Shape, Polyurethane Finish
Fingerboard: Rosewood, 9.5" Radius (241 mm)
Frets: 22 Medium Jumbo
Black Pickguard
Black Headstock
Chrome Hardware
Synchronous Twin-Pivot Tremolo (Chrome Plate with Satin Saddles) Machines
Pickups: 2 Seymour Duncan Detonator Humbuckers (Bridge & Neck)
Kill Switch
5 Blade Switch
"Dark looks define down and dirty tone.
The Squier FSR Affinity Detonator is a Stratocaster with 2 high-output Seymour Detonator humbucker pickups and a sweet kill switch in the place of the 3rd tone control for Rage Against The Machine-style staccato volume effects. The Squier Affinity Stratocaster has a proud heritage and a sweet price. The contoured solid alder body is the same world-renowned style that fueled the fires of Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, and thousands more.
Genuine die-cast tuners provide unprecedented tuning stability in this price range. The headstock is the classic '70s "big" style and is black to match the body and pickguard. The maple neck plays fast and feels great. Your Affinity Series Strat will keep its value far better than any no-name copy."

wow, thats 90% of what i was looking for, kickass
i'd settle for a 200 dollar solution as opposed to building a 700 dollar guitar
thanks a million, i'll probably put in an order pretty soon
put in some emg's, re-finish it [asuming it only comes in black] and im done
you may have just saved me big bucks, thanks a million!

[Tom Morello Project] Which is the better route to take???
OKAY, on that Tom Morello project im working on, robroe presented me with this guitar:

now for the question, which would be the better route
To build the original guitar i was thinking about: http://shortscale.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12602
OR take that Squire and put EMG's in it and a Floyd Rose + maybe new paint
I just cant decide which would be the better route $ wise and which could cause less stress

Kill Switch
What's the kill switch do?
Re: Kill Switch
It kills the signal. So think Know Your Enemy intro to hear what this effect sounds like. Buckethead uses the killswitch style that you see above (youtube jordan to see it in action). I want to get a three-way with the middle killed to get the sound/toggle you hear in the Calm Like a Bomb solo.nyweb wrote:What's the kill switch do?
