recomendations for re newing my pedalboard

Post by Progrockabuse »

well, this is kinda duel thread, as i not only want recommendations on pedals, but the acutal board i have too.

i current have a coffin case pedal board, which has a raised and angle second tier, this pisses me off, as theres not room on the bottom tier to allow for the power leads to go in at the back of boss pedals. i'm unsure wether to mod this one to remove the upper tier or get a new one, ideas?

plus, i'm stuck in a rut at the momment sound wise, the style that i play mainly is prog rock, hench my username. modulation and delays arent much of a problem, it's the drive section i'm most uncertain about. i cant seem to find that right combo nation. i'm thinking dave gilmour, steve hackett but with a kinda of indie, johnny marr edge too.

help!!! lol

hmmm, well what amp are you using at the moment? type of guitar/pickups?

i find the rat (vintage, turbo, or rat II) to be very versatile. it can be thick and fat, or piercing, and anywhere in between. i want to get another one, as i sold mine in a moment of complete daftness.

it may not be for you, but for boosting and real thick, awesome overdrive, the boss od-3 is amazing.

as far as your pedalboard goes, i have a had a few different ones (skb ps45, etc..) and have been most happy with the pedalboard that i built myself. it cost me about $15.

its made of marine plywood (just plywood, whatever) and some carpet stuff. i cut the pieces at my friends house (he has a band saw or what the fuck ever you use to cute plywood) and assembled it there with wood screws and some nails from a nailgun just to make sure that mutha fucka wouldnt come apart.

its got plenty of flat surface, as well as a second tier that is angled perfectly, with plenty of room underneath to route cables and such. then i bought some carpet type covering (the type you cover car speaker boxes with) from a car audio place for about $10 for a couple yards. then i boguth some 3M 90 adhesive. that shit is gnarly. dont use it on anything unless you want that shit GLUED for ever.

anyway, i love it, its perfect for me, and if i want to make a different configuration, i just do it all over again, and spend another $15 for a totally custom board. heres a pic:

<3 RAT2.

Get a big phat Diago Showman or Tourman and have all the pedals in a line, use the back half for leads, picks and violin bows. I can't STAND having a board 2 pedals "deep", maybe because I'm always singing whilst trying to tapdance the boxes on and off so like having them in easy aim.

totally agree with that doog ! when i was playing bass i was using a flightcase for a showman/scenesetter lighting-thing but i had 'two rows of pedals' and they were also lifted off the stage because i left them in the bottom of the case and just took the top off..it's fast and durable..but not perfect.

i'm interested in a diago board though, they're lighter, slimmer, classy looking etc

i went back to my ehx pedalbag thing because i can put all my pedals on one line (there's six or seven now) and it's low too (not a big diff with the floor level) but it doesn't offer a lot of protection.

progrockabuse... i don't know which amp you're using and what kinda guitars and pickups etc... but i'd say you might wanna try a good old boss ds1, a rat II maybe ... dunno..

at the momment i mainly use a tele or danelectro, both with single coils into a fender blues deluxe.

this is the pedal board when i first got it.

and this is it currently, minus the small stone

it's annoying, because i want my voulme before my delay, but after my drive section. i have to run a lead from one end of the board to the other and back.

cheers dude, the problem the teir is sealed, i cant get in it. and the bottom teir isnt deep enough for my boss/line6 pedals.

i'm thinking that either a rat or an od-3 might be the way to go.

i think you are right!

try building your own if you have access to the materials and means. it really was not that much effort to do a pretty decent job. im going to be building another one with a bigger tier and more space underneath (to fit an entire power strip) and a frame on the bottom to route wire underneath. wahoo!!!

i think i'm gonna try the build your own route, we have a fabric shop down the road, so hopefully i can get the materials from there, ie velcro and the like.

i might use the old pedal board as some kinda of case to hold it in. need to get a decent power supply too.

just looking on ebay for a rat pedal, which do i go for? a rat, rat 2, you dirty rat?

turbo rat rulez. its got plenty of gain, but can also do a great overdrive. and it sounds amazing. and they arent that expensive.
