which RAT are you?

well after thinking about it and messing around, i really wanna get a rat pedal, but unsure which one.

ideas?

i was offered a BRAT pedal, but sounded like ass

I remember the black one sounding like crap for the style of music i was playing. Heck i think a boss ds1 sounded better.

The Build Your Own Clone Mighty Mouse has practically every possible Rat option you could want. They just released a new version of the kit. I built the old version for a friend and it sounded incredible.

i've got the normal one and it sounds pretty good. i've got mine set on a low game overdrivey setting and sometimes i dont like the lack of sustain, ofcourse it would sound a lot better if i had a tube amp and if i turned it up loud.

RAT2 Reutz mod was a fine pedal when I had it. However I had to sell it when I bought my Telecaster.

I liked the old school rat (it was definitely older) better than the turbo rat I had for awhile. Personally I don't use distortion pedals as much as overdrive and have little need for either since getting the JVM

That amp was the death of my dirt pedals.

one of my problems is i love the sound of the amps overdrive and if i cant be arsed about my effects, i'll just use the amp and a booster pedal.
The thing is i use a delay pedal quite a bit, which if i switch to the overdrive on the amp, i'm distorting my delays. i like running the delay in the amp fx loop, but all the extra cables piss me off. is there a special loom that would mean i only had one cable run from board to amp and have send/return for the loop?

I just asked around, and it isn't allowed. Now in return for being honest, I basically have a 48-hour grace period to remove the mods, and then they're sending an inspector over with some paperwork.

But I gave out the wrong name and address, so everything's OK.

I originally bought the Turbo not for its Turboness but for its Ratness, being unaware of the difference at the time. I'm more of an overdrive person myself, and I was only using a fraction of the pedal's range. The maximum end of the dial was just ridiculous, even if I wanted lots of disto. It's a lot more usable with the mod. It's quite do-able on a Turbo Rat. I followed a page at the Ruetz website that describes what to do on various Rat models. I think I also found a Turbo Rat schematic to double-check what was connecting to what, to make sure I'd located the right component.

Progrock: maybe set up a Y-connector box with a couple regular tip-ring jacks to take short cables from your amp's loop send/return jacks, and a tip-ring-sleeve jack that connects to your pedals via a long stereo cable? Radio Shack parts will get you there. Maybe get the TRS stereo cable at a music shop to make sure it's good enough for your purposes. You'd need to build a similar box at the pedal end to separate pedal input from pedal output. This isn't my area of expertise though. I don't know if this setup would cause a ground loop or otherwise add a bunch of unwanted noise.

Or just permanently zip-tie a couple long guitar cables together. Or maybe it's three cables. Anyway, just strap 3 together into one fat Transatlantic Cable from pedals to amp?

People always rave about rats, but when I tied the Rat in a music store a couple of months ago I thought it sounded pretty boring and generic. Maybe it was the Epi Les Paul I was using it with?
