We record to a click these days and also practise with the drummer having one in headphones to keep to an even keel.

We played our last gig with John listening to a click in headphones, worked really well. Eveyrthing sounded a lot tighter apparently. We have a habit of playing songs 150% of the regular tempo when onstage.

I tried click tracks to record to as well. No dice. I just wasnt good enough. So now when I record I just lay down the drums from just having the song in my head and then do bass, guitars etc......

Its usually pretty close time wise but it limits the fills I put in the song due to timing.
