Keyboard recording
This shit is crazy!
Anyone own a keyboard that has experience in lying down tracks in this manner? The drums portion really impresses me.

I play some keyboards and do a lot of drum programming, but I never mix the two. I find it much easier to program the drum parts in midi or whatever software sequencer I'm using (usually Reason). It's especially impressive that he does the drums later in the process... I almost always do them first so it is easier to get the feel when tracking other sounds and instruments. Sometimes I go back later and add fills and stuff.

Well, he is also doin' a cover, so it's not like he's freestylin' somethin'... Only reason I say that, is when doin' a cover, you already have an idea of what the finished process is gonna sound like, so there's no variation from a production/ composition stand point...
It is cool, tho. I try that every now and then, but I always go back and correct loads of shit.

That video's ancient, I think I first saw it on the jag-stang forums several years ago. It deserved a repost and was relevent to the thread.
I'm actually thinking of buying one of those creatives on ebay for shits and giggles, the concept looks fun as hell and I'm due for a new computer keyboard anyway.
In more seriousness, I used to do alot of midi composing, on the keyboard I sold cowbell a while ago. I've got a digital upright piano and a microkorg now, but I'm thinking about buying one of these soon to fill the gap in between the two and to do recording.

I like the ability to write/program my own rhythms in quantized loops like a drum machine too, since I'm really not a drummer and can't keep time on drums throughout a whole song

That's how I record drums, on my Roland workstation. I've got real drums in the mail though. Taking too fucking long.
