Boss/Fender modeling pedals on clearance...sort of

Post by Sublimedo »

Dont get excited... it isn't much of a deal. Visiting a guitar center today I saw that they had the Bassman and Twin Reverb modeling pedals on clearance. It was only 20 dollars of so far but the guy in hollywood said they weren't selling very well. hmmm

I was tempted and tried them out. They really are awesomeeeeeee pedals (thanks to the great DeMarco we already knew that) but 20 bucks wasnt a good enough discount for me.

just though it strange. I don't know of anyone with either one of them yet.

I think it's the price rather than the sound that is inhibiting sales, they're very expensive in the UK at least. I saw a couple in Hooters (lolz!) my local music store marked at £100 deal on. The cheapest you can get them online is £75/$150. I think they're worth £50-£60 tops.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, let's hear a coupletones..."

What sucked was that there was a bunch of people walking the floor looking at roland stuff. and there he is. on a small stage jamming out like a maniac on a micro cube with no one paying any mind. He seemed more than happy to jam out when we asked if he could do a lil video demo for us. Thus the footage on SSgeardemo account.

People are twats. When searching for that FBM-1 pricing I came across a guy linking to the video saying the pedal suonded good but that DeMarco was a dick. It's like "FUCK YOU BUDDY". I just don't get it, the man is a genius, the world needs more people like him, who love what they're doing.

DeMarco is the man. He came to my GC to demonstrate the VG99 for us when we got our demo. He was actually cool as hell and really soft spoken in person (probably because he wasn't trying to sell boss pedals in a 3 minute long demo video). I only wish I thought to bring in my camera the day he was there.

As far as those pedals go, my GC has both Fender Boss pedals that used to be our demos for sale.....out of box of course, and marked $109 each. They've been for sale for over 2 months and haven't sold at that price.

These things might be great but the reason they're not selling is because "pedal guys" don't see them as pedals, but rather amp sims (which is pretty much true). If you're playing one through a tube amp, it actually doesn't sound all that great. The fact that it's an amp sim in pedal form makes it overpriced for what it actually is. It'd be brilliant in the right situation (with use with a JC120 or DI box).

Hold out, at least til Guitar Center has another big sale (presidents day is coming up, and memorial day is right around the corner). I wouldn't be surprised if the price drops to around $100ish for a one day sale.
