Aha. I've seen the Biyang boxes on eBay for a while, kinda tempted to check out one.. but I really don't need any more pedals. I've finally learnt from years of buying and selling.

yeah I'm happy with my setup as a whole and the dirt pedals I have sound great on single notes..But for chords I am still not happy. Maybe It's time to look into a 2 channel amp or something. The orange tt turned right up is cool but I still feel I need a little bit more oomf.

To be honest, there's not many boxes that sound great with anything beyond powerchords when using a load of distortion. I still say try a stock RAT2- there's loads of gain on tap and because of the pronounced midrange and compression going on, you don't lose too much note definition- it's definately one of those

But yeah, I hear ya regarding 3 band EQ. Me and Sloan are fans of the Nobels OD, the ODS-R or whatever it is that I've got has a 3 band EQ and quite a bit of gain on tap. It's a little noisy with higher gain stuff though. I'm gonna try and do that PS-5 demo tonight, maybe I can do a quick one of the Nobels too if you wanna hear. The 3 band stuff goes pretty extreme too, you can get some proper nasty Shellac stuff going on with the right settings, but also tonesnob TS808 stuff too. I likes it lots, also works awesome as a clean boost!

What can I say, I'm a busy boy. And a bit of a perfectionist. I'll even set up the Marshall to do the Nobels demo, probably just use BR8 clean amp sim for the PS-5.

I think finding a great sounding distortion pedal that is very tweakable and sounds good through most amps is a bitch to do, especially if you are on a budget. I have had a big muff, rat, turbo rat, and a few of the others, but the only 2 I have played that really sounded like an amp, and not like a little metal box, were the fulltone distorion pro and the SIB varidrive. Unfortunately both are really expensive (200 USD or more each new) And they might be hard to come by in UK. I would highly recommend either one (although the Varidrive is HUGE, although it is tube powered so it sounds amazing....)

This is the very reason I decided to go with Mike and Dots recomendations on the JVM. I caould get great overdrive with pedals, but never any really great distortion that sounded anywhere near as good as amp distortion...
They say great minds think alike....Sometimes we do too...

Yeah I just played my tt with all the gain all the way up and despite what I said above that's the sound I want i reckon.

Converting Nobels demo down for youtubeness. It's literally just video of the dials, me twirling them a bit, and playing.
