I tried a DanoPro last year, the boxy retro shaped one, and wasn't impressed by the sound. Kinda twangy, but I guess that's what you get with lipsticks. The ones I saw at NAMM though looked pretty awesome, and I'm edging towards their version of the shortscale bass. Pisses me off that it doesn't come in Aqua, only black and sunburst.

They're thankfully not built differently, I opened mine up and the build of the new ones is still pretty much hollow with only some blocks of solid wood under the bridge and near the pickups.

I've ordered some dano pots for my 2007 reissue though, I might go the full way and drill a hole for the jack location too but probably not. I do prefer the older stylings but couldn't find one at the time.

I think the original 1950s ones (3021) didn't have a back panel for electronics, and was mounted on the pickguard (not sure about the 2000 reissue but the 2007 one has a back panel) and the screw locations were different on the pickguard to both reissues.
i did some research today and saw the the current reissues have black knobs and the 2000's have chrome tuners so maybe the owner changed the tuners.
I think there were 2 2000 re-issues, the regular one (with plastic tuners) and the 'Pro' which had chrome tuners and an intonating bridge. The 2007 ones have brushed metal tuners.

You've fallen victim to an internet rumour, my old love. Construction is still lovely and hollow, and the pickups, while wound a tad hotter, are still unmistakeably lipsticks. If there's any tonal difference, it's because of the metal rather than rosewood bridge, but my ears aren't good enough to pick it out, and since it's Dano baritones that I favour, a little metally-ness isn't much of a problem.

Don't have nightmares.

I never stated it as fact darling.
The fact the pickups are wound hotter makes them not danelectro lipsticks. end of. The metal bridge is also a major change..I can hear a difference between a mustang bridge and a jaguar stock bridge so I imagine if they completely change the bridge saddle from one lump of wood to individual metal saddles there will be a huge difference.
I am sure they are great guitars, still trailered to people who wanna look different.... but just not sound different. that ain't danelectro.

But my Dano sounded like a Dano. And surely, just because they're a tiny bit hotter doesn't stop them sounding like Dano pickups? I know they're famously low output p'ups, but the new ones are hardly motherbuckers. Are you sure you're using the correct polarity cable?

Fender Forum = 40 Lashes.

Some call us outmoded but I say people need to learn.

So, can you really hear the difference between the standard Jag and Mustang bridges? Could we set up a "You Bet" style challenge?

I can tell the difference between them, it's quite simple.

One sucks donkey balls and the other one is quite good.

Nah I couldn't do a blind test or anything, but when changing them on my guitars there is a difference in how the guitar sounds before and after. It's not HUGE but it's there.

The 'strat sound' rumour comes from that the fact that at the Namm show where the new danos were unveiled and demo'd, they sounded exactly like strats. That's where I'm getting it from, anyway.

Will I be able to check the output of the pickups with an ohmmeter without taking them out?

Only if your findings prove me right, otherwise the operation will be impossible due to... science.

The retail prices do induce some sticker shock, but here in the US you see J-Jones used all the time for $400-700. Some might think that's alot to pay for Dano style guitar but when you consider it's made in the USA, it's not a bad deal at all.

Here is a sampling of the Various Dano headstocks as you can see, a lot of cool shapes there.

Image

Evets corporation just got lazy, and cut corners by using that UGGO new style headstock. Especially considering they didn't release the Pro shape Model with a Pro shaped headstock, or the Amp in Case with the silvertone style. Sometimes I wonder who are the numbskullz running these companies.

There was even a company a few yaers ago run by an ex-Gibson employee that already re-made the amp-in-case style under the name Telestar. No excuse for the ugz of these new Danos.

Man thats a cool picture.

The 63 Pro headstock is perhaps the vibe Ohhhhoo should go for. I said in the original thread they should try something Dano like.

I agree that the metal saddles are a major problem - the Pro grew on me the more I played it, but it never charmed me.

Replacing the metal saddles with wood would be easy enough, though. I'm going to be talking to my local guy about trading my Bassman 100 for one of the new '63s.
