do i take up the offer and suffer the ridicule?

Post by Progrockabuse »

hey all,

i've been offered a boutique overdive pedal by one of my mates and unsure wether to accept it due to the deal he's cutting me.

it's a fulltone fulldrive 2, only a month old, he's selling it for around 65 quid at mates rates, the cheaptest i've seen the fulldrive 150 or somthing like that.

i think it's one of those fancy snobby gear forum 808/tubescreamer cloney thingys.

though it sounds intriguing, just to try.

hmmm thoughts?

would the decision be a bit more easy if i'd tell you michio kurihara uses one ?

nah, seriously, i'd just go test it, aren't they about €250 new ? you shouldn't shy away from pedals just because of their reputation
wether it's booteeq 'as used by people with too much money and neon lit pedalboards' or 'beringereeq i don't give a crap as long as it works ' connotations

i recently got hold of a secondhand fulltone pedal and it's very well built (heavy !), simple to use and does what i want it to do and the shape is nice too, fits in nice on a pedalboard with the ins and outs and ac on the back

Every demo I've watched of that pedal has been phenomenal. I'd love to get my hands on one of those for relatively cheap.

Suffer ridicule? Why would you? The Fulldrive 2 sounds amazing. Just cause some people on here prefer quantity over quality doesn't mean you should, especially at that price.

I say do it, you won't regret it, and if you end up hating it, turn around and sell it for profit.

Kim's right.

To not buy this pedal because of it's reputation is to let snobbery cloud your judgement. Granted it's snobbery in the other direction, but still.

Go try it out, and buy it if rocks.

Sixty five quid for a good overdrive is worth it, a good overdrive being in my opinion the most important and useful thing you can have, pedal-wise.

it's mainly becuase alot of my friends think i'm a snob because i own a blues deluxe and not a deville like every other derby indie band. they also think i'm a snob because i brought a pedalboard and dont have my pedals on the floor. i'm fairly easy going dont consider myself a snob, i just like a good tone and a tidy stage.

i've been unhappy with my sound for ages, thinking that the blues driver was the best sound i was getting at the time, now i'm not so sure. current using the beringher blues driver clone, as imho it's better than the boss version.

arent fulldrives 18v?

oh, i see. they'd prefer you spend an extra 10 minutes on setup, plugging in the power and patches for all of your pedals. that makes a lot of sense.

these people are idiots. eff 'em.

yep, derby's music scene is basically emo/indie kids that like to make a point finding something to diss people about that dont play what they play. like when i was in a blues based band, i was called a snob becuase i played the blues, had some nice bits of gear and played a 335. :(

How can anyone who claims to like indie be hating on the 335? Fucking Bernard Butler.

i think statements like that mean it would be totally legal to shoot all of them directly in the face.

i mean it doesnt really matter what you use, as long as it sounds good. but to be fickle that becuase i have the blues deluxe and not a deville, means i'm up my own arse is fucking stupid. i just chose the one that i liked the sound of and doesnt shake itself to pieces after 6 months lol
