Boss RE-20

Post by mewithoutus »

did a search, nothing came up :?

i have been kinda excited about this pedal for a while, and on Plank's blog, he said that he bought an RE-20 and it is being used (by whom, he didnt say)! so, that means somebody in Radiohead is using one, which is VERY cool.

he also goes on to rave about it a little.

this makes me even MORE excited!

so, with my tax return, i think i'm going to pick one up. i was originally going to grab another DE7, but i already have one, and i feel like a DE7 into the RE-20 would be excellent.

anyone here have one? pics? clips? experiences?

i played on at a mom and pop shop in berkeley and was pretty impressed. the twist feature is NUTZO.

it's my favorite pedal that we have had in at work. it's just so fun!! and sounds great. I love to hook up the expression pedal, and it just make the pedal even more versatile. You can change what parameters are controlled by the expression pedal, be it intensity(for the feedbacks!, or delay time ect.

I really want one myself.

btw you can get the end of Karma Police dead on with just this pedal

euan has one and I think he loves it.

If the Twist feature does the same thing as the DD-20 Twist (i.e. decrease delay time and increase feedback for a massively lame swoop in sound) then it's poxy.

Yeah I has one. Currently rocking some slap back on it. Plank says they've replaced their Radiohead Space Echos that they tour with because they keep breaking down. So if you hear a Space Echo live with Radiohead it is a RE20.

I like.

Well if you hear one from now on it will be. I've heard the real thing. Not that I know or really care what a Space Echo sounds like.

radical.

i just think its cool that radiohead (or their tech, rather) digs the pedal enough to use it as a stand in for a vintage piece. thats a pretty hefty endorsement i would say.

the old space echoes sound good, and apparently this nails the tone, but all i know is that it is way more versatile and has tap tempo. and that twist thing. and expression pedal (assignable). and it looks dandy.

They still use the RE200s for recording. The RE20 is for use in touring as their RE200s keep breaking down. It sounds close enough for that, but obviously not close enough to use on record.

I thought maybe Radiohead were reliving their Squier-Valvestate-garage days.

If I had to recommend a first amp for anyone on a tight budget it would be the 8080 Valvestate:

i could rock one for bedroom practice.

and yeah, of course they are going to use the originals for recording. if you had a pedal that replicates the sound, or the actual vintage unit, which one would you use?

people rave that it is "spot on" so im guessing its not a case of them not being "good enough" to record with, but why have the vintage nits if you arent gonna use them?

and we dont know if they are recording with them or not...

Plank said it in an interview.

Also I believe that the knobs don't react the same as the originals when you turn them. Mainly the mode one. So if Jonny is in a knobby mood to fuck about with things then he is going to go with originals.

Mr Majeekas Dave's shreddin' older brother had an 8280, wellll good. If you turned the chorus dials all the way down, it turned into a footswitchable volume boost. Hell yes. Sounded nice too.

Space Echos are bulky and unreliable, I dunno if I could be arsed with one. Radiohead are in a unique position that they have lots of money and people to look after their shit. For any other band I think they'd just use the RE-20 for it all if they liked the sound of it.
