Newest Leather pickgaurd project

This thread is worrying. Regardless of personal feelings, if you can't say something nice, you shouldn't say anything at all. This shouldn't be a forum rule or anything, it's basic fucking manners.
HAVING SAID THAT:
I really don't like the leather, and I really don't like gold hardware, and I really, really don't like rebranding a Squier neck a Fender neck, but I like that guitar somehow.
All the parts are as ugly as all fuck (sorry), but they sort of fit.
I suspect that there are better applications for your leather tooling skills than pickguards, which, I don't thinkg work very well, although I suppose it's a taste issue, and they'd probably find a lot more favour in country circles.

Of course I like that pickguard...dodgedartdave wrote:Leather is funny to work with. It grows as you tool and shrinks as you finish it. I still have to do a bit or trimming with it and also still have to put the finish Laquer on it. I also may put in the holes for the screws for the pickup. Haven't decided on that one though. The pictures are kinda hard to what it really looks like. The embossing on the roses doesnt really show up.Sparky wrote:I like the design and stuff, though I know it'd look much better if it was cut proper with the exact same lines as a standard pickguard.
Thanks for the compliment!

I typically hate gold hardware too. But I figured, I got em, why not? I think if a guitar has any gold on it, it has to be understated. I think vintage cream looks ok with gold. The guitar really does feel and play great. 51 necks are a fantastic deal. And like I say, I built the whole think for under $150.BacchusPaul wrote:This thread is worrying. Yeah, that's why I stuck the big capital letters in the middle, because I knew I was going to contradict myself.jcyphe wrote:SAY WHATBacchusPaul wrote:This thread is worrying. Again, I think it's a matter of manners and respect for others, regardless of what you think of them.
You'll notice that my criticism, whilst being scathing wasn't an attack.
Technically, you didn't contradict yourself. You said "nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all," and then stated that while the individual elements would have you running, you like the finished product with all of them on it.

I dont like leather pickguards, and I dont like gold hardware, well on teles for sure. The leather "drawings" Your making, its a craft that takes a lot of time, and in the end looks cheapy... I dont know. I would love a simple leather guitar strap, or a leather belt.. but guitar pickguard or shirt or pants.. I really dont know... I can say thats its cool that You can spend so much time and have so much patience, but I dont like the guitar very much, sorry. Its just what I think.

Why anybody is concerned with how anybody else spends their time and money is beyond me. What people do to make themselves happy is fine, so long as it isn't hurting anybody else. At no point in DDD's first post did he ask "What do you guys think of this?". Insted it reads to me like "Look what I made". I give him props on his skills no matter what I think it looks like.

Thanks for the complement. These type of projects don't take me very long anymore. I did this in under an hour and I have a bit left to do. I'm making two fully tooled guitar cases and those take Months!!!!
