Cheap organ

Post by NickS »

Why don't we get these offers here? Now I understand why Robert(o) wasn't too cut up about losing his organ (hmm, could re-phrase that).
$20 for a Conn organ in good working order, including tube amp? Sheesh.

around here you can walk into nearly any thrift store and find an organ under $50, it's worth searching them out.

i've got 2 a all tube lowry and a cheap solid state hammond.

The question about old organs is if they have real tonegenerators and are they tube?

Some are basicly like a big wooden casio keyboard.

But if you find one with a nice tube amp in it you can pull the amp and sell it as vintage electronics on eBay. Then sell all the old tubes from the tone generator/preamp section.

A friend of mine has a 60's Farfisa. I took a look inside.... its amazing, the bank of big capacitors and whatnot that are devoted to generating one note. It all gets repeated for the next note on the keyboard, and so on. I tuned the whole thing for him through a bunch of screwdriver-holes in the back.

A bunch of the switches and stops work only part of the time, or only on certain keys, and some things don't work at all. It's definitely functional enough to be a lot of fun though. Considering the stuff that's broken, and that a ton of those capacitors are electrolytic and are likely drying up by now (replacement time), it will likely cost a lot to repair. Which may explain why these go for so cheap.

I saw an old living-room-type organ left out on a main street in my neighborhood with a FREE sign on it, waiting for the next rain or for somebody to save it. It was a heartbreaker, but I didn't have room for it, or time/$ to fix it. And so it goes.

The more I find out about organs the less mines seems like it was a good deal.

A hundred and seventy quid, but it was a charity shop so i dont' really mind, and I'll get my money's worth out of it.

I love it.

They'll be OS, but not likely very N. Agreed, some will be valuaboola, and at the very least quite cool.

The power light "jewel" in my Twin is harvested from an old organ. Big keyboard humanitarian, me. :)

There is a large valve computer in the London Science Museum.

euan and I are going to get matching catsuits made (one in 8-10 year old, the other 27-year-old-stocky-fit) and we're gonna hit that fucker up for some Mullard action.

Take advantage of the cheapness of these beasts!! I love mine, it's the Conn Traditional "The Strummer" model.
