Some of you guys are a little down on me for being a guitar whore-der, but in my defense I couldn't resist.
So......what does this:
+
+
= ?
It's a '68/'69 as near as I can tell. The pot dates are '67, the neck stamp and pickups are from '68 and the serial seems to be between '68 and '69. I dunno for sure. It is a factory refin over comp blue. In the spots where the paint is worn off you can see the blue underneath. The neck finnish still has a gloss to it and feels like it wasn't played too much.
Before anyone yells at me for destroying this vintage beauty take a look at this mayhem

It looks like the routing was done by termites.

Humbuckerz.
It is a shame, the rest of the guitar is in great shape. It doesn't bother me
too much though, it will surely get a nice coat of beer and sweat once I start playing it out.

None of the solder joints on the switches or pots were original anyway.

did you replace the 250k volume pot with a 1meg? Was the tone and capacitor original?

I left the tone pot alone and it looks like the cap was replaced at some point. The volume pot is now a 500k.

Yep. that's my philosophy. If you love and you are going to keep, then screw original; make it the way you want it.

I got mine on Ebay, free shipping and no import tax. They are easily available and come up every couple of weeks.

My thought is that if some dumbass already raped a guitar you now own, theres no wrong in taking advantage of whats already been done, I bought a 88 MIJ strat that looked great until I got the PG off and low and behold some doofus had taken a butter knife or something to the rear p'up route, and since there was a WD pg on it I said screw it and made a fat strat. That being said I would NEVER hack up ANY unmolested guitar. To all of those who have screwed great guitars by "modding" them I give you the one fingered salute. Lloyd
